When two teenagers' bodies are pulled from a Northumberland lake, Dr. Tony Hill immediately suspects a multiple killer. Based on characters in the novels by Val McDermid, Wire in the Blood centres around Dr. Tony Hill, a clinical psychologist who is able to tap into his own dark side to get inside the heads of serial killers. Working with vice squad detectives, Hill takes on tough and seemingly impenetrable cases in an attempt to track down the killers before they strike again. Set in the fictional Yorkshire town of Bradfield, the show is a fast-paced and thrilling ride that borders on the surreal, adding an additional measure of intensity.

The abduction on an 11-year-old-girl and the strangulation of a young woman bring back memories of the murder of young Trudy Hibbert three years earlier. Known pedophile Paul Gregory was acquitted but police and locals fear he is killing again. Dr. Tony Hill is convinced the attacks bear the hallmarks of a different killer, until a bizarre link suggests more deaths will follow.
Dr. Tony Hill believes that the killer thinks that he is dispensing justice. He and DI Jordan also have to investigate two unsolved pedophile crimes, while the main investigation is complicated by Carol's new boyfriend, Spencer, who has his own idea as to who is behind the killings.
