Burns & Allen were sponsored on radio by Chesterfield cigarettes- on radio-in their 1938-'39 season. On TV, their long-time sponsor was Carnation Evaporated Milk, with B.F. Goodrich as an alternate sponsor from 1952 through '57, and General Mills in their final 1957-'58 season. The reason George smoked a cigarette on camera during his March 1954 apperance with Bing Crosby on Jack's TV show was because he didn't want to offend Jack's sponsor, the American Tobacco Company {Lucky Strike}, by smoking a cigar...which he normally preferred.

Wasn't the Burns & Allen Show once sponsored by Camel cigarettes at one time? Perhaps that had something to do with it. A cigarette clause in his contract? Of course the real question is what was Gracie smoking? Cheers, Shrdlu
