Videos and information on people that I met on the greek island of Samos
One of these rare occasions, when magic is in the air. Late at night we came to a place called "Karafaki" in the port of Pythagorio on the island of Samos, where I met my friend Jiannis Loulourgas, luthier and singer/bouzouki player. We convinced him to play some songs for us despite the fact that he already had played all evening in a restaurant. So he opened his bouzouki case again, took out his bouzouki and sang and played a couple of songs for us. I was glad to have my "audio field recorder" with me. Here is one of the songs he sang in that night: "S'agapo yiati eisai oraia". A beautiful traditional song originating from Asia Minor. Listen and sit with us - at least acoustically - at our table in that night of September 27th, 2008l In the background you can even hear the music of a tavern nearby. The photos of Jiannis depicted in this presentation were taken in the summer of 2008 at a different site in Pythagorio called "Notos".
New CD 2008 of Yannis Loulourgas! Luthier, bouzouki player and singer Yannis Loulourgas from the village of Pythagorion on the island of Samos released a new CD in spring of 2008. The album is called "Rebetika Tragouthia" and contains 12 masterful interpretations of traditional rebtic songs. The CD was produced in the studio in Thessaloniki. On some of the songs his daughter Maria joins him in singing. You like the music of Yannis? You can experience Yannis playing his music "live" 3-4 times a week during the season in the village of Pythagorion! Interested in buying a handcrafted extremely good sounding instrument?
