ENGLISH SUBTITLES VERSION Kuhle Wampe ( the full title is Kuhle Wampe oder Wem gehört die Welt) is a German feature film, released in 1932, about unemployment and left wing politics in the Weimar Republic. The title refers to a tent camp in the countryside near to Berlin. The script was conceived and written by Bertolt Brecht. He also directed the concluding scene: a political debate between strangers on a tram about the world coffee market. The rest of the film was directed by Slatan Dudow. The impact of this black and white film is enhanced by the cinematography of Gunther Krampf and a musical score by Hanns Eisler.

Plot: The film recounts the life of a young Member of Parliament who joins the Freemasons in order to relaunch his career. He thus learns of how the Freemasons are conspiring with the Jews to encourage France into a war against Germany.

San Francisco in den 1970er Jahren: Rund um die Castro Street entsteht das erste von Schwulen gepraegte Stadtviertel. Die frueher unsichtbare Minderheit entwickelt ein neues Selbstbewusstsein, und es ist nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis sich dieses auch politisch manifestiert. In diesem Klima der Emanzipation wird der charismatische Schwulen-Aktivist Harvey Milk zum ersten offen homosexuellen Stadtverordneten. Schnell wird er populaer, denn er praktiziert Buergernaehe, organisiert Nachbarschaftshilfen und setzt sich fuer Minderheiten ein. 1978 nimmt Harvey Milk entschieden gegen die "Briggs-Initiative" Stellung, eine Anti-Schwulen-Kampagne. Zusammen mit dem progressiven Buergermeister George Moscone erarbeitet er eine Gesetzesvorlage zur Sicherung der Rechte von Homosexuellen, die auch von der Stadtverordnetenversammlung verabschiedet wird. Die einzige Gegenstimme kommt von seinem spaeteren Moerder Dan White, der nach seinen Worten ein Zeichen "gegen den moralischen Verfall der Stadt" setzen will.
