John P. Meyer, DDS' trip with his family to the Galapagos Islands
Galapagos Islands, Sombrero, Disconnected from former realities. If someone said "let's put cactus, penguins, lava, big red crabs and a bunch of other stuff together" you would think him crazy. Well, here we walked it. Starting with baby sea lions and the panga in the background, on to a surreal cactus landscape, to "so cool" little lava tubes and a skeleton, our group walks over the most sublime environments. jpmeyer.com
Galapagos Islands, Sombrero, Galapagos Penguins. Our first exposure to the most northern penguins on Earth. Another of Klaus's marketing shots, with the Mary Ann in the background. jpmeyer.com
Galapagos Islands, Santiago, Kathy's slideshow of Santiago (James) Puerto Egas. jpmeyer, com
Galapagos Islands, Santiago, A great handful of shells; 3 iguanas bathing OK, we couldn't take the shells with us, but here's some great footage. Plus, 3 iguanas taking a bath. jpmeyer.com
Galapagos Islands, Santiago, Our group traverses the terrain. Beautiful path. Thanks to all in our group for providing some size perspective. Thanks to the iguana looking for a shady spot. jpmeyer.com
Galapago Islands, Santiago, Bleni the bifocal fish. I think that's how it's spelled. These fish can see under the water and above the water by using bifocal lenses, according to Klaus. Plus, Jonathon gets hosed by a surprise water eruption. Edwin says "Arrrgh!" jpmeyer.com
Galapagos Islands, Santiago, Lava sea shore. Fur seals. Sleeping fur seals, and a little territoriality display by two fur seals. Holes in the lava allow for some amazing water works. jpmeyer.com
Galapagos Islands, Santiago, Our seashore path. Not exactly a sand beach sea shore! Handsome iguanas. Part of a sea urchin. jpmeyer.com

Galapagos Islands, Santiago, Black sand beach! Daily briefing summary. Black sand beach! Beautiful rock shore architecture, complete with Sally Lightfoot crabs. jpmeyer.com
Galapagos Islands, Santa Cruz, Giant tortoise charging at us. This guy was really motoring. The other tortoise emptyed his lungs when retracting his head, but you would have to turn your speakers up painfully loud to hear it. jpmeyer.com
Galapagos Islands, Santa Cruz, Galapagos tomato patch, poison apple tree, and flower of a nut. These tomatoes only grow on the Galapagos. Klaus said it took the foremost "tomato-ologist" a long time to figure out how to germinate the seeds. Here's a riddle for you: We all took some seeds home with us, but without violating any of the strict import/export rules. Did anyone try to germinate the seeds? As Sherlock Holmes would say, "It's alimentary, my dear Watson." jpmeyer.com
Galapagos Islands, Santa Cruz, Sebastian the Tortoise, panoramic view, and kids on the bus. Leave it to Sebastian. jpmeyer.com
Galapagos Islands, Santa Cruz, Some perspective on these GIANT tortoises. These are huge creatures. Sebastian tries to inspire "craning" (or was it "stilting"?) imitating a bird's motions. Klaus got the tortoise to lift it's head. Spider in web. jpmeyer.com
Galapagos Islands, Sant Cruz, Panga to the Giant Tortoises Daily briefing summary, Santa Cruz bay, Klaus excerpt of Darwin's seasickness aboard the Beagle, cactus cliff shoreline, GIANT seagull, quick bus ride, living fence, smooth-billed Ani, mossy foliage, Galapagos Flycatcher. jpmeyer.com
Galapagos Islands, Santa Cruz, Walking the Lava Tube. This was a great walk through a lava tube. Cows used to disappear by falling into openings of the tube. jpmeyer.com
