  • Italy travel: Rome, St. Peter's Square, this time from the Pope's point of view! Look at the size of the outer supporting columns of this magnificent structure as compared to the humans at the base. Then, our Perillo Tours Familia explores the inside of St. Peter's Church, which fortunately did allow video and photography. We see a few of the faithful exiting St. Peter's Church in this video segment. Every face tells a story! • Italy travel: Rome. Slideshow of St. Peter in Chains, including Michaelangelo's Moses, the Trevi Fountain, Navona Square, and "Pass the Piggies" with Wendy and Mark. Lots of other impressive landmarks passed while on the bus. Great fun, day and night with our Perillo Tours Familia! Yes, this seems like a lot of activities for one video, but it was all done at a very comfortable pace. (You can view this video, and other travel videos in full-size and near-DVD quality, travel stills and more at www.jpmeyer.com). • Italy travel: Rome, the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's Square slideshow. Several thousand more non-repetitive pictures could have been obtained in the halls of the Vatican Museum, and much better pictures of the Sistine Chapel could have been obtained if proper video had been allowed. Then, Pope Benedict VXI gave his Wednesday blessing of the crowd in St. Peter's Square. The youngest member of our Perillo Tours Familia pointed out that "it really should be called St. Peter's Circle", and right she is! • Italy travel: Rome Dinner, a short walk from our Perillo Tours hotel. Another very nice looking restaurant with the same question: "Meat or fish?" The establishment was charming enough to warrant recreation of our entrance on video tape, ending with a quick "hello" from everyone in our group. (You can view this video, and other travel videos in full-size and near-DVD quality, travel stills and more at www.jpmeyer.com). • Italy travel: Rome, back at the hotel playing "Pass the Piggies". Never heard of this game? Neither had we. Roll the pigs, and depending on how they land, you get points, as the video shows. Thanks again, Mark and Wendy, for your generous and thoughtful gift to the kids! They've introduced "Pass the Piggies" to every friend or relative who has enough time to roll a few pigs! • Italy travel: Rome. The statues undergoing restoration outside Piazza Navona's church will be worth another look when they are completed. The relatively minor fountain/statue at one end of Piazza Navona was impressive enough! Walking back to our Perillo Tours bus for transport back to the hotel, every turn produces a new and wonderful discovery. You literally can't just look left and right without seeing something historical or impressive, as the video shows. Back at the hotel, boxing promoter Don King lives up to (or down to?) his reputation. • Italy travel: Rome, walking towards Piazza Navona right out of the Pantheon. Angry skies looked menacing but fortunately gave no rain. Lots of little shops and cafes lined the perimeter of Navona Plaza. Next time, when we go without our Perillo Tours Familia, we'll have more time for more video and for an espresso. Impressive and unique architecture of the church! (You can view this video, and other travel videos in full-size and near-DVD quality, travel stills and more at www.jpmeyer.com). • Italy travel: Rome, more video exploration of the Pantheon. The pantheon is built as a tribute to ALL the Roman gods, named for the days of the week. The explanation/translation made more sense when the days of the week were said in Italian, but Saturday was for Saturn, Sunday was for the Sun, etc. There were more interesting facts presented by our Perillo Tours guide than could possibly be recounted in one short video. • Italy travel: Rome, our Perillo Tours Familia inside the Pantheon. The video shows no internal supporting structures in the center! The Pantheon was "originally built as a temple to the seven deities of the seven planets in the state religion of Ancient Rome. It is the best-preserved of all Roman buildings. It has been in continuous use throughout its history" according to Wikipedia. This video segment ends with one of the Roman gods. • Italy travel: Rome, Trevi Fountain details. "Trevi" means three roads (tre vie), and this fountain at the junction of three roads marked the end of one of the great Roman aqueducts. Trevi could mean three rivers to account for the volume of water! Video of lots of tourists. Then, our Perillo Tours Familia continues our walk to the Parthenon. Huge columns outside, supporting all of the Pantheon. (You can view this video, and other travel videos in full-size and near-DVD quality, travel stills and more at www.jpmeyer.com). • Italy travel: Rome, approaching the Trevi Fountain. Here our Perillo Tours Familia is walking down a typical two way street on the way to the Trevi Fountain. Just kidding, it's really a one way street packed with tourists, cars, motorcycles, and restaurant tables. Wow, the Trevi Fountain is actually much bigger in person than it looks! Hopefully the video will show that. Lots of street vendors, an Egyptian Pharoh, and a Roman Soldier wander about. • Italy travel: Rome, the Church of St. Peter in Chains. A little tease of the Roman Colosseum shows in the video, but now we're off to St. Peter in Chains. This church has another fantastic sculpture by Michaelangelo: Moses. In Rome, our Perillo Tours Familia was heavily saturated with one amazing church after another. Any one of those places could have been an all-day event just to scratch the surface of what was available. • Italy travel: Rome, St. Peter's Square during the live blessing of the crowd by Pope Benedict XVI. The large screen video screens make it easy to see the Pontiff no matter where you are in St. Peter's Square. The Pope's message continues in the background while the video camera explores some of the architectural marvels of St. Peter's Square. Predictably, the thrill of the Pope wears off quickly for the kids. Our entire Perillo Tours Familia is soon off to Rome's Colosseum. • Italy travel: Rome, in St. Peter's Square, video of the Pope giving his Wednesday blessing. The Pope greets the crowd, and an opening prayer is offered. There's our Perillo Tours Familia in addition to thousands of the faithful (or at least the curious). • Italy travel: Rome, St. Peter's Square. The Pope makes his entrance for his Wednesday Blessing of the crowd, our Perillo Tours Familia in attendance. It's not every day that you get blessed by the Pope! This video may show 20,000-30,000 people, of the maximum 70,000 that this plaza will hold. (You can view this video, and other travel videos in full-size and near-DVD quality, travel stills and more at www.jpmeyer.com). • Italy travel: Rome, video of the Vatican Museum entry line. Wow! After we left the Sistine Chapel, we walked towards St. Peter's Square to catch the Pope's Wednesday Blessing. Now, every one of our Perillo Tours Familia was glad to have woken up so early - the line to get in to the Vatican Museum went on forever! • Italy travel: Rome. Vatican Museum priceless artwork. Some of the presentations are kind of rough, "Passion of the Christ" rough, for our "G" rated Perillo Tours Familia. Some art looks more like stills from an "R" rated medieval battle movie, as opposed to something you would expect to see in the high holy house of Catholicism. (Must be this untrained eye's assumptions.) Still, one awe-inspiring series of hallways! The Vatican Museum: it just goes on and on. Lastly, President Richard M. Nixon presented Pope Paul VI with some "rocks" collected from our moon. Moon "rocks" indeed. The video shows no perspective of the display, unfortunately, but the audible laughter plus the background comment "The lint in my pocket is bigger" should give you an idea of how small these moon specks really are. • Italy travel: Rome. Vatican Museum hallways were an area where video taping was allowed. Hours of visual entertainment could have been video taped. Each room, every hallway, all surface area up down and sideways presented art, history, culture, religion and more, all at once. Our Perillo Tours Familia was amazed! • Italy travel: Rome, the Vatican Museum. We're in 'Roma' now! The Vatican is one of the smallest independent city-states in the world, so officially, we're not in Rome; we're not even officially in Italy anymore! In this video, our Perillo Tours Familia gets a brief orientation on the Sistine Chapel. Inside the Sistine Chapel, neither talking or video taping is permitted, so our Perillo Tours guide gives us an overview of what we're about to see. These poster boards of the Sistine Chapel are the equivalent of a starving person looking at a picture of spaghetti and meatballs. The real deal is indescribable in words. • Italy travel: Who remembers the 1971 movie "Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii"? Here's the amphitheater where part of the movie was filmed. Then, our Perillo Tours Familia sees some nice views of the outside of this walled city.
