In 2002, eight internationally renowned writers, poets and intellectuals including American novelist Russell Banks and Nobel laureates Jose Saramago and Wole Soyinka traveled to the West Bank and Gaza to visit poet Mahmoud Darwish and observe the state of the Palestinians living there. Documentary filmmakers Samir Abdallah and Jose Reynes alternate scenes from the writers' journey with testimonials from the Palestinian people, readings by Darwish and reflections from the concerned authors as they bear witness to what they see.

Mehdi Ben Barka (ne en janvier 1920 a Rabat, Maroc - disparu le 29 octobre 1965 a Fontenay-le-Vicomte) était un homme politique marocain, principal opposant socialiste au roi Hassan II et leader du mouvement tiers-mondiste et panafricaniste. 29 octobre 1965, 12h30. Mehdi Ben Barka est enlevé par deux policiers français, Louis Souchon et Roger Voitot, devant la brasserie Lipp, à Paris. L’opposant au régime marocain avait rendez-vous avec des cinéastes, Philippe Bernier, réalisateur, et Georges Figon, producteur, pour un projet de films sur la décolonisation. Il n'a pas réapparu et son corps n'a jamais été retrouvé.

A l’instar de la majorité des conspirateurs impliqués dans ce meurtre commis de sang-froid, Soete avait gardé le silence pendant près de quarante ans. Cet assassinat, bien que s’étant déroulé au coeur même de l’Afrique, avait été commandité dans les capitales de l’Europe de l’Ouest. Il faudra quarante ans avant que la majorité des personnes impliquées, assassins, hommes de main et cerveaux de l’affaire, acceptent de parler ouvertement de cette sinistre tragédie. Leurs témoignages ne contiennent ni sentiment de culpabilité, ni même remords. L’assassinat de Lumumba le 17 janvier 1961 a changé ce leader de l’unité africaine en véritable figure mythique..

The authorities assumed leftwing squatters to have placed the bomb and just one citycouncil-member, Roel Van Duijn, refused to sign a statement blaming them....in the interview that Baank gave to a dutch tv-channel he is bringing his misdead as if it was a good joke...Baank stayed just three months in prison for his provocation that hasn't been blocked by the secret service BVD who was well informed about the planned action...
it's all about the squatters' movement in Amsterdam in the early eighties...for some years a very strong movement that I experienced from the very inside...and never forget as other people who took part of it... it was maybe the last extraparliamentary movement in Holland...

Der Film hat originale Aufnahme, Interviews mit Teilnehmers am der Raeterepublik, Liedern von die Revolutionaere Kaempfer, unsw... Anfang April 1919 beschlossen Arbeiter- und Soldatenraete in Augsburg und München die Ausrufung der Raeterepublik, und wurden Erich Muehsam und Landauer mit der Abfassung einer entsprechenden Proklamation der Raeterepublik beauftragt (die folgt am 6. April). Die Regierung Hoffmann kuendigte den Einsatz von Truppen gegen die Raeterepublik; die revolutionaeren konnten erst erfolgreich verteidigen. Am 2. Mai war die Stadt von Regierungstruppen besetzt. Etwa 1 000 Menschen kamen um, etwa 5 000 wurden vor Gericht gestellt. Landauer wurde am 2. Mai ermordet; Mühsam wurde zu 15 Jahren Festungshaft verurteilt.

Dieser wurde 1873 in Mainz geboren. 20 Jahre später emigrierte er nach London wo er sich nicht nur der radikalen, jiddischen, Arbeiterbewegung anschloß, sondern auch seine Lebensgefährtin Milly Witkop kennen lernte. Während des ersten Weltkriegs wurde er als "Alien Enemy" interniert. 1919 kehrt er zusammen mit Milly nach Deutschland zurück und wird hier zur treiben Kraft des entstehenden Anarcho-Syndikalismus. 1922 war er maßgeblich an der Gründung der anarcho-syndikalistischen "Internationalen ArbeiterInnen-Assoziation beteiligt.
