RAINBOW ISLAND

RAINBOW ISLAND

My name is Walena (Warren in Hawaiian) & I'm an amateur videographer. This channel is dedicated to capturing on film one of the fastest declining cultures in the world by preserving the Legacy & Spirit of the Hawaiian people's true culture in music, chants, & hula through my upcoming documentaries, without all the depictions of what the tourism industry exposes most people too. My passion is to share what the Manna (In Hawaiian "Spirit" or "Soul") of Aloha! (In Hawaiian to "Embrace Life" & share the"Breath of Life" with one another) exemplifies! A real Hawaiian will rub noses when they greet each other, just as Akua ("God" in Hawaiian) breathed life into the nostrils of the first Adam to make him a living soul. Presently, these videos are only test projects while I'm fine tuning my video production skills, so as to present much better quality, edited videos & documentaries. I Welcome! your input & comments - anyone interested in helping me to expose my Hawaiian videos can e-mail me : warbuck777@verizon.net

  • Simplicity, who performed in a free Live! entertainment concert at the International Market Place Food Court in Waikiki, is one of the first local Hawaiian bands I filmed when returning to Hawaii in 1999. This is my 1st full video production on Veoh & I hope you enjoy the local Hawaiian rhythms of this band.

  • I filmed Lance Kalahiki perform his song entitled "King Of Kings" on January 11, 2002 at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand, adjacent Kuhio Beach in Waikiki. When ever I share this video with others the "Spirit" seems to touch their hearts - Hope this song Blesses you!

  • On November 7, 2000 the group Hawaiian Paradise performed in a hula show at the Kuhio Beach Stage mound on Kalakua Ave. in Waikiki. They imposed on a very special person who was watching the show by calling her onto the stage to play bass & sing. There are so many talented people in Hawaii & this girl is one of the toughest bass players you'll ever find with a uniquely Hawaiian style falsetto voice that reaches way beyond the sky!

  • January 4, 2002 I filmed the Hawaiian slack-key guitar group Ho'omanalo, who performed at the Food Court of the International Market Place on Kalakua Ave. in Waikiki, and you will also see one of Hawaii's finest hula dancers. Ki ho'alu, which literally means "loosen the (tuning) key,"is the Hawaiian name for the solo finger picked style unique to the only music indigenous to Hawaii. Many slack-key songs reflect themes in the past & present lives of people. Hearing this group led me to become interested in the acoustic sound of slack-key.

  • Aloha! Welcome to a segment of Brunch on the Beach on Kalakua Ave., in Waikiki that I filmed on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003. Enjoy the incredible harmonies of Na Leo Pilimehana, Hawaiian meaning the voices blending together in warmth. Soon, I plan to upload the entire performance of Na Leo @ Brunch on the Beach. Tell me what you think - I welcome your comments & input!

  • The Hawaiian group Kapena singing ''Fly,'' which I filmed at poolside of the Princess Kaiulani Hotel on Kalakua Ave., in Waikiki on Jan. 30, 2003. For those of you who were gifted with the blessed experience of living or to have visited Hawaii, where the Manna (In Hawaiian "Spirit" or "Soul") of Aloha! (In Hawaiian "to Embrace Life" & "share the Breath of Life") deeply touched your life, where leaving Hawaii was difficult & too this very day Hawaii has never become just a lingering memory - this songs for you!

  • While in Hawaii for the month of January 2002, I made my daily excursions through the International Market Place in Waikiki & briefly became friends with a local Hawaiian Philippino man named Omando, who sang this ukelele medley for me.

  • This video was taken in 1999 of two silver manikin sidewalk performers working on Kalakua Ave. in Waikiki to receive tips from tourist bystanders, when one of them turns & accidentally runs into my camera tripod nearly knocking it to the ground. This was my very first & most hilariously funny camera footage shot in Hawaii!
