SYOHEI RYU KARATE 7 DON BLACKBELT

A demonstration of Okinawan Syohei Ryu Karate by a 7th Don blackbelt. This took place at the Okinawa Festival in 2007.

SYOHEI RYU KARATE

This is a demonstration of SYOHEI RYU Karate at the Okinawa festival in Hawaii in 2007. This guy was a seven don black belt who started an all womens Dojo which is the only all womens dojo in Okinawa.

Naha Daiko performing in Hawaii

This is a video of the Naha Daiko Group performing at the 25th annual okinawa Festival in September of 2007. The group came from Okinawa to perform their powerful style of Okinawan Eisa.

HANAYAKARA IN HAWAII

This is a performance group called Hanayakara. They performed at Honolulu's Kapiolani Park and were a huge hit. Their act includes many aspects of Okinawan culture and is a must see if you ever get a chance to see them in person. My dream would be to one day see them come and perform in the Chicagoland area for all of the landlocked uchinanchu people here. I hope you enjoy the video!

Eyes Of the Future

This video is of a play that was performed at the Hawaii United Okinawa Associations Performance Hall. It took place August 30th 2007. The play is the Story of Toyama Kyuzo who is considered to be the father of Okinawan Emmigration to Hawaii and from there the world. The play is performed by the Children of Kin Town Okinawa who came to Hawaii to help celebrate the 25th Annual Okinawa Festival. It was Produced by Daiichii Harata a famous choreographer from Okinawa Japan who also did the closing ceremony for the 4th worldwide uchinanchu festival in Okinawa in 2006. Enjoy!

25th Okinawa Festival Opening Ceremony

This is a video I shot of the 2007 Okinawa Festival's Opening Ceremony. This took place on August 31st 2007 in Waikiki Hawaii. There is a bunch of introductions and then three very good performances. The acts were Sonny Chin and Halau Na Mamo O Pu'Uanahuhu, Theresa Bright, and Churamana.

Calabash - Asadoyuta

This is a performance by Calabash in Hawaii at the 2007 Okinawa Festival. The song is Asadoyuta an okinawan folk song only with a modern twist.

Yui Daiko Performance

This is a performance we saw in Hawaii of the Yui Daiko. They performed this taiko routine before the theatrical production of Toyama Kyuzo "Eyes of the Future". The group is composed of Jr. High School Students from Kin Town in Okinawa.

2007 Rinken Band Live

This is a video of Rinken Band from Okinawa. This performance was on September 1st 2007 in Honolulu Hawaii. This band sings Okinawan songs and is extremely popular with Okinawan music fans.
