In episode 2 of 3, the story continues with the cubs which are half grown and still pretty playful but it's time to learn the hunting and fighting skills they'll need as adults. Play fighting erupts between them - it looks nasty, but their claws are never drawn. The young tigers have huge appetites and their mother must hunt successfully most days to satisy them. When they're not eating, playing or fighting, the cubs sleep - and tigers love water, so a cooling water hole is perfect on a steaming day. The spy cameras show that this wallow is also a magnet for a whole array of other forest animals, including wild boar and sloth bears. The cubs are starting to behave as individuals and take personal hunting tuition from their mother. Then disaster strikes when both their parents are injured, and a rogue male tiger puts in an appearance. I met Danni Rosner at the Future of Music Conference during the annual Pho dinner at the Nam Viet restaurant in Washington DC. I had a nice little Jack Daniels buzz going that evening and met her when I ducked outside to smoke a cigarette. She was standing there chatting with someone holding a CD in her hand so I said hi and mentioned I was a writer which scored me a copy of "Piano Actress", her new album. She asked me if I wanted to come see her perform live in New York and, after checking schedule, I realized that I was going to be in the city that day. I had been wanting to do some video in a small venue anyway and it seemed like a good opportunity to test my cam in those conditions (low light, questionable acoustics). I pitched the video idea to her and she thought it would be cool too. There are supposed to be like 5 million bands on Myspace and so many of them have no video or really crappy videos shot by somebody's friend at a live show and that is their only representation to fans. A good video can be like a digital business card for a band, winning new fans and opening doors to venues. A bad video does the opposite. I wanted to be able to produce a good, low cost video option for unknown bands without a whole lot of cash and this film and the associated music vids are my first attempt to do that. YaY I'm back! :D After a one year break I'm finally doing piano videos again! Since this was a long time I thought I come up with an extra long video (hope you don't get bored..) and decided to do a medley of Ne-Yo's most popular songs. Everthing's played by ear again so no sheet music. THE FARCHANA MANIFESTO: Darfur Refugee Women Risk Everything For Their Rights
Note: Ivan Gayton—interviewed here and in Darfur In Ten Minutes—is available to speak at your school or anywhere else. ivangayton@hotmail.com In the summer of 2008, after a night of terror, a group of courageous Sudanese refugee women living in the Farchana refugee camp in eastern Chad wrote a 14-point document calling for their rights. It has come to be called the Farchana Manifesto. Despite great danger, one of the women was willing to speak out on camera. My friend Ivan, who was doing humanitarian aid work in Chad, filmed this interview and brought it home. I (Pete) then interviewed Ivan, and with additional footage from a few generous others, put together this ten-minute piece. The underlying message is this: Refugee camps are meant to be transitional. When they become what are called semi-permanent locations, they can become even greater refuges for hopelessness and violence—with women facing the brunt of the violence. This is contrary to both human dignity and the stated goals of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which is to protect and support refugees and assist in their return or resettlement. The main goal of the piece is to answer the women's plea to "bring this message to the outside world." It seems the least we can all do. Awareness is the first step. Here he is saying that the city of NY can be deceptive so basically, many women come to the city with dreams but end up as casualties therefore : DON"T BITE THE APPLE EVE.." ( I think we as Christians can agree with that and please don't make light of the apple issue LoL). Why shouldn't women bite the apple, which btw is a nice wordplay on New York City being known as The BIG APPLE, why? He says why in the next stanzas... Now what does Jay-Z means with the next words? "Hail Mary to the city your a Virgin, and Jesus cant save you life starts when the church ends," Jay-Z is still playing on words as a good poet and literary writer would do. His message? Ladies, don't be deceived ( bite the apple " New York") because you can turn into a trick and end up serving the ill city life of NYC. Is Jay-Z making a doctrinal statement when he says, "and Jesus cant save you, life starts when the church ends?" No, nor is he actually saying that Jesus can't save. He is comparing the world described in the beginning of the verse, you know, the big apple " NY" that he warns women from biting into, that one, with the seemingly weaker world of going to Church once a week, therefore " your life starts when the Church ends." And as a Christian committed to sound doctrine, the Church of Christ, etc, I have to say Bravo because Jay-Z is on point with what he is communicating there. Let's look at the verse again... "Lights is blinding, girls need blinders" Why do the girls need blinders Rob?

October 23, 2009 - Don't worry folks - even though the ZA cam is still not functionning, the bears still are! I recorded this last Friday while visiting the zoo. Wow, dat widdle badass bear is a pawful to say the least! Lun has to eat to provide for him but he sure can torment her! She showed how patient she can be though. Believe it or not, all this transpired that morning before noon. Talk about a rough ride for Mommie Monster! My apologies that parts of the clip are a bit fogged out due to condensation - no amount of squeegying could get rid of it!

Hollywood police officer caught on dash cam trying to cover up their rear-end crash
After a Hollywood police officer rear-ended a car in February and then arrested the driver on drunken driving charges, he and other officers talked about doctoring the report--it said a jumpy cat created a distraction--to cover up the crash. The exchange was recorded by a dashboard camera in one of the patrol cars. The officers apparently didn't realize it was on. "I don't want to make th More..ings up ever, because it's wrong, but if I need to bend it a little bit to protect a cop, I'm gonna," one of the officers can be heard saying. "We'll do a little Walt Disney to protect the cop because it wouldn't have mattered because she is drunk anyway." Alexandra Gabriela Torrensvilas, 23, of Hollywood, ended up charged with four counts of drunken driving and cited for improper lane change. On Tuesday, Hollywood police officials placed Officer Dewey Pressley, 42, Officer Joel Francisco, 36, Sgt. Andrew Diaz, 39; and civilian Community Service Officer Karim Thomas, age unavailable; on administrative duty pending an internal affairs investigation and a review by the Broward State Attorney's Office, said spokesman Lt. Scott Pardon. Francisco was driving the car in the crash; Pressley wrote the report and made the arrest. Pressley's report detailing the Feb. 17 midnight crash in the 2800 block of Sheridan Street said "a large gray stray cat" that had been sitting on Torrensvila's lap jumped out of her car window and distracted her, causing her to veer into Francisco's lane, where she abruptly braked, and he hit her. "I will do the narrative for you," one of the officers says on the tape. "I know how I am going to word this, the cat gets him off the hook." Torrensvilas' attorney, Larry Meltzer, said this is a disturbing "abuse of power." "Actually seeing it transpire on video in front of you, it really kind of sickens you," he said.
