Our family has sooo many great Disney Parks memories, but the expression on our daughter's face after Peter Pan turned our 4 year old Haley into a real fairy princess tops them all. The 5 seconds that he took to make her smile has turned my entire family into Disney lifers. There are no words we can say that can truly express the thanks we feel to Disney World and that Wonderful boy dressed as Peter. view the new and improved it's a small world. Like several other Disneyland attractions, "It's a Small World" originated with the 1964/1965 New York World's Fair (it was Pepsi's pavilion.) After the fair closed, the ride was transferred to Disneyland and officially opened in 1966. The name of the ride was originally "Children of the World". When Walt Disney demonstrated it to songwriters Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman, the ride's soundtrack featured numerous national anthems all playing at once, which resulted in a cacophony. Walt said, "I need one song."[1] In response, the brothers wrote one of the best known Disney tunes of all time: It's a Small World (After All).[2] It is argued that the song is the most performed and most translated song on earth (although this is largely due to the fact that it plays on a continuous loop at the various Disney theme parks).[1] The attraction's quirky design was done by Mary Blair, who was also an art director on several Disney animated features (including Cinderella and Peter Pan). Like many Disneyland and Walt Disney World attractions, scenes and characters were designed by Marc Davis, while his wife, Alice Davis, designed the costumes for the dolls. Many of the dolls were created by Joyce Carlson who is honored with a shop window along the Magic Kingdom's Main Street U.S.A. The sign there reads "Dolls by Miss Joyce, Dollmaker for the World." The ride was completed in nine months, the shortest amount of time it has ever taken to create a Disneyland attraction. On January 22nd, 2008, Disneyland closed its version of the ride for refurbishment.[3][4] The New Guinea Room has been transformed into a North America room, while the New Guinea scene's figures, props and set pieces have been relocated to the South Seas Room. The music has been mixed with Disney tunes such as "Golden Afternoon" and "When You Wish Upon a Star". 29 Disney characters are now displayed.
