  • This is one of my favourite episodes of this old show. I like that it branches out from all the really common popular tales into more obscure ones. I don't have many episodes though so I won't be able to give you all the whole series.

  • There is perhaps no more beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tale than the legend of a beautiful young girl fleeing her home because of a jealous stepmother. Now more breathtaking than any previous interpretation, "Snow White: The Fairest of Them All" is a fantasy of truly epic scope. Wonderfully acted and cleverly scripted, this modern retelling introduces such classic elements as Snow White's miraculous birth and the mysterious reason why her father remarries after his wife's death. Miranda Richardson ("Enchanted April", "Merlin") stars as Queen Elspeth, the beautiful, yet vain stepmother whose desire to be the "fairest in the land" ultimately leads her to conspire to kill any rival for that title. Kristin Kreuk ("Smallville") stars as Snow White, the winsome young princess who is forced to run away into the forest where she finds protection and shelter with a band of peculiar little men. "Snow White: The Fairest of Them All" is a magical adventure with such dazzling special effects and unforgettable characters that it will instantly capture the hearts--and imaginations--of a whole new generation. In my opinion, this is the best Snow White movie ever made. I'm very sorry about the subtitles and that the sound is off! NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED. I just love this movie and want others to be able to enjoy it as well!

  • 1 - Sung outside the Prince's door 2 - Of a Tailor and a Bear 3 - Beauty in the Rose-Garden 4 - From Dwarf-land ----------------------------------- Towards the end of his life MacDowell (1861-1908) issued two sets of pieces plus a singe number under the pseudonym of 'Edgar Thorn'. I understand that MacDowell did to to facilitate giving the copyright to a nurse who had at one time been needed in his household. All of the pieces are lightweight. This collection of four pieces - published in 1897 - might have been written for YouTube presentation, as it forms a well-proportioned short suite that fits well within the ten-minute limit. The fairy tale origins of the first and last pieces are not obvious, but the second derives from the Grimm "Tale of the clever little tailor" (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Clever_Little_Tailor for the plot), and the bear's growls at being tricked by the tailor can be heard in the piano bass. The third seems to depict the episode in "Beauty and the Beast" where Beauty tends the dying Beast in the rose garden just before he is revealed as a prince ( http://www.answers.com/topic/beauty-and-the-beast ). ---------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear (Sussex, UK) http://www.psear.co.uk

  • Christine Schäfer, Alice Coote and Vladimir Jurowski triumph in Humperdincks first and most successful opera filmed live at the Metropolitan Opera in Hi-Definition. This irresistibly delicious new English-language production of Humperdincks Hansel and Gretel is the first Metropolitan Opera : Live in High-Definition series release following EMI Classics recent collaboration with the Met. The Brothers Grimm fairy tale, a timeless childrens favourite, features a sophisticated score, and this intriguing new staging will appeal to audiences of all ages. Alice Coote and Christine Schäfer are charming as Hansel and Gretel. The role of the Witch, written for a mezzo-soprano, is sometimes sung by a tenor as is the case in this production - with Philip Langridge in the role. Vladimir Jurowski, one of the worlds most sought-after conductors, leads Germanys dearest opera, with a sensitive account of Humperdincks enchanting score. Hansel and Gretel is considered by many as the salvation of German opera, bringing relief from the murky Wagnerian depths of Teutonic myth and initiating a return to the shimmering world of the fairy tale. In 1923, Hansel and Gretel became the first complete opera to be broadcast on radio from Covent Garden ; Eight years later it was the first to be broadcast from the New York Met. It is significant therefore that this is one of the eight operas chosen to be in this seasons Met HD transmissions. Beautifully staged by Richard Jones and moodily designed by John Macfarlane, this dark and eccentric production is tough and dark, sparse and savage, an exploration of deprivation, cruelty and gluttony in a contemporary always-always-land.
