With the Holy Ghost, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. 12. I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, Only begotten Son of God, God of God, light of light, very God of very God. Begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father: by Showm all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation come down from heaven. *Zelenka's "Missa votiva" was written as the fulfillment of a vow he made upon recovering from a severe illness in 1739. The autograph inscription on the cover of the score reads 'Vota mea Domino reddam. Psal: 115. Versu 5...'. The fifth verse of psalm 115 is 'vota mea Domino reddam coram populo ejus' (I will pay my vows to the Lord, before all his people).

  • "Ave Verum" (Opus 1, #2), Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934) anthem camcorded live 01 March 2009 (1st Sunday in Lent) Church of the Redeemer, Episcopal Morristown, NJ, USA The Redeemer Choir The parish choir of the Church of the Redeemer Wayne Burcham-Gulotta, Music Director/Organist Sung in Latin: "Ave verum corpus natum ex Maria virgine, Vere passum, immolatum in cruce pro homine. Cujus latus perforatum vero fluxit sanguine; esto nobis praegustatum, mortis in examine. O clemens, O dulcis Jesu, fili Mariae." Translation: "Jesus, word of God incarnate, born of the virgin Mary, on the cross you suffered for us all. Cleanse us by the blood and water flowing from your side; feed us with your broken body, now and at the end. O Jesus, child of Mary, hear us." J. W. Steere & Son Organ Co., Opus 701, 1918, 3/49 Ernest M. Skinner bought out Steere in 1920 and Skinner ran Steere as a separate company for about a year. Then they brought it into the fold as a separate Skinner factory. For a time organs being built there had the Skinner name but were essentially Steere organs. Much of the great Skinner at Woolsey Hall, Yale University, New Haven, CT, USA is Steere (1915 major enlargement of 1902 Hutchings). Final expansion to the Skinner instrument at Yale we know today was the 1928-1929 rebuild.
