Mysterious Origins of Man #1A - Rewriting Human History [NBC 1996]
Disk One: Rewriting Human History Plus uncut interviews with Graham Hancock and Robert Bauval Total running time: 102 Min. On Sunday February 25th 1996, NBC broadcast "The Mysterious Origins of Man", narrated in part by Charlton Heston, purporting to be a documentary about scientific evidence that would overturn currently accepted views of human history and evolution. Although Mysterious Origins was anti-evolutionary, it was not advocating scientific creationism, even though some of the "experts" and arguments are familiar to readers of scientific creationist literature. Instead, just as scientific creationism is an attempt to use science to support fundamentalist Christianity, Mysterious Origins is apparently an attempt to use science to support Hinduism. Much of the material in the program is based on the contents of two books, Forbidden Archeology and The Hidden History of the Human Race by Michael Cremo and Richard Thompson, both of whom appeared on the show and are members of the Bhaktivedanta Institute, a branch of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. Both books are published by Govardhan Hill Publishing. Other material for Mysterious Origins came from Graham Hancock's book Fingerprints of the Gods, Rand and Rose Flem-Ath's book When the Sky Fell, and Robert Bauval and Adrian Gilbert's book The Orion Mystery. [Part 1] Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most feared and misunderstood of all medical conditions. Despite over 200 scientific papers being published on this neurological condition every year, it remains stigmatised and controversial. Some doctors don't even believe it exists. Yet it is estimated that as many as 3-5% of the childhood population, and over one million adults in the UK are affected by ADHD. These people are often described as stupid, lazy, disorganised, wild, out of control or woozy on drugs. But the reality is altogether more complex, and deeply moving.

Lead Story: Hollywood The Linux Movies Group is an organization for the advancement and mutual support of motion picture technologists using the Linux operating system. It’s the most popular operating system for animation and visual effects in the motion picture industry. Big Gun: Richard Stallman Richard Stallman is a notable programmer whose major accomplishments include GNU Emacs, the GNU C Compiler, and the GNU Debugger. GNU ? In 1985, he published the GNU Manifesto, which outlined his motivation for creating a free operating system called GNU, which would be compatible with Unix. The name GNU is a recursive acronym for “GNU's Not Unix”. Soon after, he incorporated the non-profit Free Software Foundation (FSF) to employ free software programmers and provide a legal framework for the free software community. In 1989 Stallman invented and popularized the concept of copyleft. By then, much of the GNU system had been completed, with the notable exception of a kernel. This final gap was filled by Linux in 1991, written independently of the GNU project using the GNU development tools and system libraries. The arrival of Linux, and the availability of a completely free operating system created some confusion, however, and most people now use the name Linux to refer to the whole operating system. Stallman has attempted to change this by asking people to call the operating system "GNU/Linux". Lead Story: Computer Security It’s about vulnerability... Your home computer is a popular target for intruders: they want what you’ve stored there. They look for credit card numbers, bank account information, and anything else they can find. By stealing that information, intruders can use your money to buy goods and services for themselves. But it’s not just money-related information they’re after: they also want your computer’s resources, meaning your hard disc space, your fast processor, and your Internet connection. They use them to attack other computers on the Internet. In fact, the more computers an intruder uses, the harder it is for law enforcement to figure out where the attack is really coming from. If intruders can’t be found, they can’t be stopped, and they can’t be prosecuted. Big Gun: Bruce Schneier Bruce Schneier is an internationally-renowned Security Technologist and author. Described by The Economist as a "security guru," he is best known as a refreshingly candid and lucid security critic and commentator. When people want to know how security really works, they turn to Schneier. His first bestseller, “Applied Cryptography” explained how the arcane science of secret codes actually works, and was described by Wired as “the book the National Security Agency wanted never to be published.” His book on computer and network security, “Secrets and Lies”, was called by Fortune a “jewel box of little surprises you can actually use.” His current book, “Beyond Fear” tackles the problems of security from the small to the large: personal safety, crime, corporate security, national security. Battle of Tarawa Footage WWII Pacific Theatre US Marines
A rare look at the true underbelly of combat, With the Marines at Tarawa is a documentary shot firsthand by Louis Hayward, a Marine stationed in the Pacific during World War II. The footage is real and graphic; the accompanying narration overviews the serious and brutal reality of war at it’s purest. The succession of bloody and savage battles is highlighted by the most well known: the battle at Tarawa. The fighting lasts for days, with thousands losing their lives. Though only running for eighteen minutes, the harsh revelatory images provoke powerful emotional, moral and intellectual responses from the most hardened viewer.
Before the end of 1961 the New York publishing company Harcourt, Brace and Co. had the first edition of Lewis Mumford's highly successful book The City In History ready for publication. Two years later, in 1963, the National Film Board of Canada funded the production of six documentaries, each lasting 27 minutes, for a series entitled Mumford On The City. The closing titles confirm that the material for the films, based on The City In History, was prepared by Mumford himself. The director Ian MacNeill wrote the film script and produced the various parts: The City: Heaven and Hell, The City: Cars Or People, The City And Its Region, The Heart of the city, The City As Man's Home and The city and the future. In 1963 Mumford was 68 years old and agreed (decided) to appear as the presenter of the six films, expressing his personal view about the future of the western city, interspersed with pictures of places, cities, archaeological documents, works of art and architecture.

Paratroopers on D-Day, Great World War II Documentary
D-Day Minus One is a tremendous documentary that reveals the role of the lesser known Airborne Divisions the day before D-Day - when paratroops, gliders, and troop carriers landed in France behind enemy lines to prepare for the invasion of Normandy. A patriotic film that never falls into the usual traps of racism and jingoism, the film illuminates how these brave men engaged in heroic operations that prepared the way for, or worked in concert with, the epic invasion that next day. The footage of these troops being dropped behind enemy lines is excellent, and the narration stirring and moving. This vital exposure to the military experience in World War II is a fascinating walk through a momentous event in history. D-Day Minus One is unquestionably one of the best vintage World War II films ever made.
