Sanath Jayasuirya and Upul Tharanga pile it on chasing 322 vs england @ leeds in 2006.
In 2002, Wisden carried out a statistical analysis of all Test matches in an attempt to rank the greatest cricketers in history, and Muralitharan was ranked as the number one bowler of all time. Muralitharan's unique bowling action begins with a "flapping wings" run-up, and culminates with an extremely wristy release which had him mistaken for a leg spinner early in his career by Allan Border. Aside from his off break, he also is a master of the doosra, the surprise delivery which turns from leg to off with no discernible change of action. He is also able to bowl orthodox leg spin, as shown during the South African tour of Sri Lanka in 2006, managing to extract prodigious spin.
Sri Lanka's express fast bowler Lasith Malinga rocked the 2007 World Cup by claiming four wickets in four successive deliveries (including a hat-trick) but could not prevent South Africa from squeezing a tense 1 wicket victory in the Super Eight match at Guyana On Wednesday. Malinga became the fifth bowler in World Cup history to claim a hat-trick. Malinga's deadly blow in the 45th over picked Shaun Pollock, whom he bowled for 13 and then followed it up by inducing a catch off Andrew Hall to Upul Tharanga to reduce the Proteas to 205 for 7. He then returned next over to claim the set Jacques Kallis caught behind for 86 and followed up next with a deadly yorker to remove Makhaya Ntini for naught. His feat is unprecedented in ODI history for becoming the only bowler to claim four wickets in four balls, including a hat-trick.
Gibs..Gibs...Gibbs...
Some serious hitting by Sanath Jayasuriya. This knock is the fastest 20/twenty half century(50 Runs) another fantastic knock.
Critics will also grumble about Murali's good fortune at playing Bangladesh and Zimbabwe so regularly. Indeed, it is true that approximately 25% of his victims have come from these two minnows. But Murali would also have enjoyed Warne's volume of matches against England, a team against whom he has been equally prolific. In any case, his 26 wickets in this series is now par for the course considering the fact that he raced from 600 to 700 in just 12 matches: an average haul of 8.33 wickets per Test against opposition that includes Pakistan (2 Tests), England (3 Tests), South Africa (2 Tests), New Zealand (2 Tests) and Bangladesh (3 Tests). His wicket-taking was no more prolific against Bangladesh than it was against the rest. - Charlie Austin, Cricinfo
The Sri Lankans, coached by Dav Whatmore and captained by Arjuna Ranatunga, used Player of the Tournament Sanath Jayasuriya and Romesh Kaluwitharana as opening batsmen to take advantage of the fielding restrictions during the first 15 overs of each innings. At a time when 50 or 60 runs in the first 15 overs was considered adequate, Sri Lanka scored 117 runs in those overs against India, 123 against Kenya, 121 against England in the quarter-final and 86 against India in the semi-final. Against Kenya, Sri Lanka made 398 for 5, a new record for the highest team score in a one-day international that stood until April 2006.

I love watching the underdog win. As i write this Ireland battles on in their batting innings, regardless of the outcome the Bangladesh Vs India Match and the Ireland Vs Pakistan match, what matters most is what these two teams have brought into cricket. The irish supporters were in full force in the carribean for a match played on St. Patrick's day. This video highlights Irelands performance as well as their supporters!
20th Match, Group B: India v Sri Lanka at Port of Spain - Mar 23, 2007 Sri Lanka won by 69 runs Sri Lanka 254/6 (50 ov); India 185 (43.3 ov). Inspired by a genius who raised his game when the occasion demanded, Sri Lanka overpowered India in their final league match at Port-of-Spain and stormed into the Super Eights. India suffered one of their most disappointing days in recent memory, muffing up a run-chase on a pitch posing no worries, and were all but ousted from the World Cup, in what is likely to be their worst campaign since 1979.
Fantastic bolwing performance by Malinga..as Micheal Holding said "WOW"
The Kolkata rain ruined Sanath Jayasuriya's parade as the opening game of India's four-match one-day series against Sri Lanka was abandoned after torrential rain at the Eden Gardens. Having been sent in to bat by Rahul Dravid, Sri Lanka had made 102 for 3 from 18.2 overs when a heavy drizzle forced the players off and though the rain stopped, the outfield was far too marshy to risk further play. In the time available, Jayasuriya had raced to 63 from just 61 balls.

This was Jayasuriya in World Cup 1996 mode. Cutting and pulling clinically, he also clipped a couple of early sixes off his legs off Syed Rasel. The Bangladesh opening bowlers wasted the new ball, obliging Habibul Bashar to introduce spin after ten overs but, unwisely, he did not delay the second power play. Without sufficient boundary protection, Abdur Razzak had 26 taken off his first two overs, Jayasuriya twice hitting him for six to race to fifty off 43 balls.
