  • An Amnesty intern talked about Amnesty's many projects and how that organization always received a warm reception at gay pride street fairs. As an Amnesty member, I signed petitions at the Queens Pride event. Today I received the following email. If you are liberal, gay or just like being in a parade instead of watching it, please sign up and show up. "Subject: Pride Parade with Amnesty Dear all, I'm writing you because you are currently on my list of people that expressed interest in marching, alongside with the OUTfront program at Amnesty International, in the Manhattan Pride Parade on Sunday, June 25th. We are extremely excited with the amount of interest in the march we have received so far! We also hoped that you could further help us promote the march by encouraging your family, friends, partners, etc. to join us. Also, with enough interest, we are planning on organizing a small social event prior to the march, or a "march pre-game," where we can all enjoy Amnesty-provided pizza and Pepsi, work on our signs together and socialize. We hope to be sending you more details during the next couple of weeks regarding both the "march pre-game" and the march itself. To assist us in doing this it would be great if you could email us with whether or not you still plan on attending the march, if you are interested in attending the pre-party, and how many people you hope to bring with you. Remember that the more marchers we have the more noise we make for human rights! Hope to hear from you soon, Ayesha Ghazi OUTfront Intern Amnesty International USA OutfrontIntern1@aiusa.org

  • Transwoman model & Transgender Fashion Artist, Julia Murray, shows us how patriotism & anti-war sentiments can be mixed during holidays like July 4th through clothing, even cothing with a militaristic sensibility, through the clever use of accessories. Glasses, patches & buttons can change the "mood" of one's clothing from "sober" to "playful & celebratory".

  • Stamford Manor hosts "Civil Union Celebrations" in southern Vermont, just three hours from NYC. Manager Mark Greenberg explained to Randy Wicker options ranging from simple elopement to small parties. Stamford Manor has hosted everything from Elton John's wedding to P. Ditty's last birthday party. Stamford Manor has hosted civil unions with cowboy themes, others done in leather (some in black leather-others in white leather). Gay bears also find refuge there. No Islamic gay civil unions yet, but manager Mark Greenberg thinks those will arrive in due time. So, pretty young things and/or silly old fools, if you're determined to get hitched, here's a place to go!

  • "Baby Monroe" is one of those talented performers who entertains commuters in the subways & Path train systems in NYC. With the guitar case open, he soothes passers-by with music and song. Listen in as he continues undaunted by passing & arriving trains, his melodic rich voice triumphing over an announcement over the public address system. This was filmed with my new Samsung NV3 camera which is smaller than a pack of cigarettes but still able to caputre a shooting/exploding/undiscovered new STAR !

  • Bullies are creepy. I know. I was horribly bullied as a kid. Hal Rainbow & his pardner are active in the Creative Industries Network - an organization that helps all kinds of artists improve their skills and advance in their chosen form of art. Working with puppets is the focus of Rainbow Productions. They have some shows for adults and others for children. I got to meet "Androcles the Lion" and "Hideous the Wonderous " who are characters he uses with kids""K thru 6" to get them to talk about being bullied and to show that sensitivity had more value than physical strength. Puppets entertain adult audiences in Europe. Punch and Judy shows go back to the Middle Ages. Pupperty is still alive, still growing, still doing good works.

  • Transexuals & gender idenity have captured the public imagination. "Transgeneration" (the series) & "TransAmerica" (the movie) have opened up public discussion about what it is to be male and/or female or somewhere in between. Gender identity is separate from sexual orientation. 25% of transexuals are attracted to members of the opposite biological sex before changing their gender identity. For them, changing gender means going from being a heterosexual biological woman to being a biological gay man--or from being a heterosexual biological male to being a lesbian, as can be seen in my previous vlogs: "Transgender Same Sex Marriage" and "Why Women Chase Trans Men". Now, trans people are organizing to become equal citizens of modern day society. This tells the story of their struggle......

  • Performances that DON'T go as planned are the most entertaining. This excerpt from martial arts performances at NYC's Chinese New Year's 2008 celebration proves "show biz glitz" is no match for "performance". I suspect "The Master's" mistake was in using stage-boys instead of saw-horses. No insult intended. Watching "The Master" lose to the stick was a lot of fun! See "Martial Arts for Chinese New Year" for impressive performances that did go "as planned" :-)
