Around 8.4 million children around the world are enslaved today. Now, in a remarkable journey across three continents, five of them tell their stories. This documentary is presented by reporter Rageh Omaar. The International Labour Organization in 2006, estimated 218 million working children aged between five and 17. If awareness is the first step to reform, then this documentary certainly strikes at our collective and individual conscience as human beings.
The Message, first produced in 1976, documents the life of the last Prophet of God, Muhammad (peace be upon him). To this day, it still remains as one of the classics to have been made on the life of the Prophet. The movie, to a large extent, recollects a common historical narrative of the life of the Holy Prophet according to the different Muslim sects, with few points of difference. It depicts the early animosity the Meccans held towards the Prophet and the various forms of persecution he, his family and supporters were subjected to during the Meccan period. A highlight of the movie is the scene that recounts the famous dialogue between the Christian King of Abysinnia and the head of the Prophet's envoy, Ja'far son of Abu Talib, who had travelled along with fellow companions to seek refuge from the injustices of the Meccans.

"Star Wars in Iraq" documents US use of experimental weapons in Iraq, produced by Maurizio Torrealta and Sigfrido Rannuci for Italy's RAI TV. In November, the Pentagon was forced to admit to its use of Phosphorus after the same Italian team of journalists produced an investigative documentary on the practise of US forces. Maurizio Torrealta and his colleagues now say the United States is using experimental laser weapons against Iraqi civilians.

One of the World's biggest news stories, in one of the smallest and most claustrophobic strips of land on earth. Gaza is a virtual prison with no way in and hardly any way out. In an exclusive story, we talk to the grandchildren of Fatima Al Najar â the oldest female Palestinian suicide bomber. Bewildered and grieving for their grandmother, the children say all they want to do is to follow suit and become 'martyrs' themselves.
Investigative reporter Seymour Hersh talks to Democracy Now about his explosive new article in the New Yorker Magazine. Hersh reports that John Negroponte's decision to resign as National Intelligence Director was made in part because of the Bush administration's covert actions including the funding of radical Sunni groups - some with strong ideological ties to al-Qaeda - to counter Shiite groups backed by Iran. Hersh also reports the Pentagon has established a special planning group to plan a bombing attack on Iran and U.S. military and special-operations teams have already crossed the border into Iran in pursuit of Iranian operatives.
In this important lecture delivered at the University of Massachusetts, Said takes aim at one of the central tenets of recent foreign policy thinking-- that conflicts between different and "clashing civilizations" (Western, Islamic, Confucian) characterize the contemporary world. "The real question is whether in the end we want to work for civilizations that are separate, or whether we should be taking the more integrative, but perhaps more difficult path, which is to see them as making one vast whole, whose exact contours are impossible for any person to grasp, but whose certain existence we can intuit and feel and study." -Edward Said
In an extended Channel 4 interview, President Ahmadinejad says Iran does not need a bomb and said his country had a role in future Iraqi security. Mr Ahmadinejad said, "I should say this to the good British people... we want peace and friendship for all. We should help. This war should finish." He also told the programme that "if the American government, and British government, corrects themselves, problems will be solved." Mr Ahmadinejad also stated repeatedly that Iran does not want to develop a nuclear bomb, saying, "We do not need a bomb. We are against a bomb actually. "There are many reasons that we're against it. In our belief we are against bombs [and] from a political point of view it is not useful." And when questioned on the possibility of UN sanctions, Mr Ahmadinejad said, "From the beginning we said everything should be solved by the agency."
Will the U.S. ever leave Iraq? Official policy promises an eventual departure, while warning of the dire consequences of a "premature" withdrawal. But while Washington equivocates, facts on the ground tell another story. Independent journalist Dahr Jamail, and author Chalmers Johnson, are discovering that military bases in Iraq are being consolidated from over a hundred to a handful of "megabases" with lavish amenities. Much of what is taking place is obscured by denials and quibbles over the definition of "permanent." The Bases Are Loaded covers a wide range of topics. Gary Hart, James Goldsborough, Nadia Keilani, Raed Jarrar, Bruce Finley Kam Zarrabi and Mark Rudd all add their observations about the extent and purpose of the bases in Iraq.
Ayatollah Hakim, leader of the Iraqi Shi'ites, was imprisoned for calling for an Islamic state. He managed to escape to Iran, where he was supported by the clerics. Hakim had pledged to fight any American military administration set up in post-war Iraq. And he had 15,000 well-trained soldiers ready to fight - the Badr Brigade. This is a report made about him a month prior to the US-led invasion of Iraq.
Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land provides a striking comparison of U.S. and international media coverage of the crisis in the Middle East, zeroing in on how structural distortions in U.S. coverage have reinforced false perceptions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This pivotal documentary exposes how the foreign policy interests of American political elites--oil, the security of the state of Israel driven by fundamentalist political theology, and a need to have a secure military base in the region, among others--work in combination with Israeli public relations strategies to exercise a powerful influence over how news from the region is reported.
One of the most powerful sermons delivered in the history of Islam in which the daughter of the Holy Prophet (s) stands in his mosque, just days after his passing, to defend her rights. In this most eloquent of sermons, the Lady of Light (a) describes the fundamentals of faith, the philosophy of the Islamic Laws, the appalling state of the people before the advent of Islam and the grave injustices that had been transgressed just days after the Perfector of Justice and the Divine Message left this world.
