Globe-trotter Barry Wilding (Leslie Fenton) intercedes when a man annoys Julie Kenmore (Muriel Evans) on a ship crossing the English Channel, but she refuses to tell him her name or address. Barry determines to find her in London, but he is summoned to a lawyer's office and informed that he has inherited "The Hawk's Nest", a large estate outside London. He has to sign a declaration that he will never sell the property. He arrives there and is roughly put off his own property be trespassers who have taken up residence. Despite offers to buy the estate and warnings to get out of England, Barry refuses to do either. Julie appears and tells Barry she is living at "The Hawk's Nest" and he must allow her and her father, Dr. Kenmore (Morgan Wallace), to continue to live there for at least six months, and he can not visit her there.
'Beat the Devil' is a fine piece of work by Houston, Capote, and Bogie. Its totally enjoyable. Good pacing, snappy dialogue, plenty of atmosphere and unusual locales. The plot has a half-dozen twists and surprises--and more than a few chuckles are to be had, at the wild antics of the outlandish cast of characters

Alan Arkin and Rutger Hauer star in this award winning movie about the successful mass escape of 300 prisoners from the Sobibor Nazi death camp. Fine acting and production values make this film a worthwhile viewing experience.

A simple enough plot: ace test pilot does not want adoring kid brother to follow in his footsteps but to do something less dangerous. Kid brother has other ideas. Brothers compete for same girl.
In its time, "The Birth of a Nation" was a masterpiece. Its racist undertones and revisionism are quite disturbing, but it is still worth watching for its historical influence.
