Xmas action didn't stop here at Beat HQ, as Alice Rules brought James Beckett down to Zeitgeist on the 25th for a magic show. Beckett, an Elvis impersonator, later sang at the Mint (best karaoke bar in SF) and the Blurb.com crew got into the action, too.

No debate this year over whether to close Haight St. for the Street Fair. Booze, raucousness and clean-up issues resulted in packed hearing rooms for the past 2 years, but no protesters attended this year's hearing to approve a second straight "dry" fair..

Some folks say it's the city's best street fair. It sure made a good case for top billing on its 22nd opening day--Saturday, July 5. The fair stretched from Eddy to Sacramento, an astonishing length for tunes, food, sun and fun.
Simon Posford is our generation's greatest musical mind, waltzing between genres with intricate rhythms & arching epic melodies: psytrance, middle-eastern, south american, neptunian (that's where some of his songs seem to come from) and now, psyrock.
