YOU_ser. The Century of the Consumer / ZKM | Media Museum / Opening
On the occasion of its anniversary celebration "10 Years of ZKM in Hallenbau A", ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany, turns its attention to the effects of net-based, global creation on art and society with the exhibition "You_ser: Das Jahrhundert des Konsumenten (The Century of the Consumer)."
British artist Liam Gillick was nominated for one of the most renowned visual art awards, the Turner Price, in 2002. He works in various media, including texts and physical structures. Ricardo Jacinto: Labyrinthitis / Manifesta 7, Rovereto
Installed in the courtyard of the Manifattura Tabacchi in Rovereto, Italy (one of the locations of Manifesta 7, The European Biennial of Contemporary Art), is a sculpture by Ricardo Jacinto, made of six gigantic black balloons, filled with helium. As the video shows, not only children have fun with the device that is diminishing one’s weight by about 35kg and lifts up peoples bodies and spirits. The installation is called “Labyrinthitis“.
In October 2008, the performance artist Alexandra Bachzetsis (born 1974 in Zürich, Switzerland) presented “Show“, her first major institutional exhibition as a series of interconnected live acts in the main hall (Oberlichtsaal) of Kunsthalle Basel. Bachzetsis’ exhibition including rehearsals for performances was open for viewing during Kunsthalle’s regular opening hours. The exhibition’s run was punctuated by following performances, scheduled to take place weekly: “Dream Season” (October 24/25, 2008, 8pm); “Gold” (October 31, 2008, 8pm); “Show Dance” (November 8, 2008, 8pm); “Handwerk” (November 14, 2008, 8pm). He has designed the Mandarin Oriental Dellis Cay and The Residences at Mandarin Oriental. Piero Lissoni was born in 1956 in Seregno, Italy. He studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. Piero Lissoni lives and works in Milan. Since 1985 he is designer and art director for Boffi. He has created award-winning furniture, kitchens, lighting and bathrooms as well as apartments, villas, luxury hotels, showrooms and yachts. True Cities is a collection of photos that show four metropolises which each in a specific way form the current political and cultural landscape. The installation is a patchwork, bringing together the urban structures of Guangzhou, Dubai, Lagos and London. The exhibition comprises hundreds of different pictures that show the interconnectedness of the world. Charlie Koolhaas, raised in London, lives and works in her studio in Guangzhou. She has a background as sociologist, and worked as editor for several magazines, curator and writer. In this video she talks about the concept of the exhibition.
