  • Nice typical Japanese TV filler. Culture/travel thing of Aix-en-Provence. The sound track is posh music, no speaking, hence for spoken language, since there was no 'none' option (and Shirley there are some silent movies, concerts, mime shows on here) I selected "Zulu".

  • Darwin ga kita is a wonderful Japanese nature series. This programme is about a species of cuckoo. It's perplexing to see the poor "cuckolded" birds unable to see that there is a new egg in the nest, that it's a different colour and HUGE. Then you'll see the day-old cuckoo chick, all skin and bones, wriggle under the other chicks and labouriously push them up and over the edge of the nest... it's a horror movie. These are better than BBC nature programmes, including those of Saint David Attenborough.

  • Kodomo no nyuusu (kids' news) Blue Peter is famous for its use of empty Fairy bottles and toilet roll cores. On this excellent kids' news the models are brilliant; they're used to explain everthing from nuclear power to the workings of the Diet to kids. Not only can you learn about Japan, but things you don't know about the rest of the world; in this case, the history of, and how the Oscars work; even why they're called 'Oscars'.
