London, England travel: Westminster Abbey. This is the traditional location for coronations and burials of English Monarchs. The official name is "The Collegiate Church of St Peter, Westminster" but it is almost always referred to as Westminster Abbey. This is always great fun, running around with a flashlight in your bare feet, never knowing what you're walking on. The Midnight Grand Buffet. Spectacular ice, fruit, chocolate and other culinary sculptures. Almost a shame to eat, it was all so beautiful! The ice sculptures are hand carved out of a 360 pound block of ice, in about 20 minutes. I just kept the video camera running while taking still pictures. Edible art! Too bad the midnight buffet has to happen so late - the kids would have loved this experience in person! jpmeyer.com

This is the rest of our Bridge tour of the Voyager of the Seas, the flagship of the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. In this segment, we all get to try out the $10,000 Captain's chair. Very comfortable, very confident, very commanding. Some good views of the scooter that the construction crew gave the Captain. You really have to want to watch a bridge tour to sit through both halves of this video slideshow, but as the "First Mate" (?) tourguide points out, "apparently only special people can have bridge tours." Well, of course we are special, but the difference between us and the 3,000 other people on board: we asked for a bridge tour...
Italy travel: Florence. Dancing at "The Vulture's" Ristorante. Mark, a man who didn't choose to dance at his own wedding, performs his rendition of "Dancing with Cement Shoes." This performance is trumped by the other tour group at the restaurant, who truly demonstrate arrhythmic dance moves. Fortunately, Nancy's husband Vern makes our Perillo Tours Familia proud with moves that would make Glenn Miller smile. The kids wonder "Is this really what adults do for fun?" YMCA, and "Twist"-ing which looked more like "Break"-ing. But all in good fun at Pizzeria Ristorante Falciani. Italy travel: Amalfi Coast beginning our drive. Here we stop outside Positano, where our hired taxi driver/tour guide (also named Tony, like our main Perillo Tours guide) gives us a local person's perspective. Tony knew which turnouts on the drive had the best views of the Amalfi Coast. He also knew which turnouts might contain the previous evening's alcoholic and post-coital refuse (inappropriate for our G-rated crowd). Tony was good! Besides being very informative, his accent was just a pleasure to listen to. Sorry the end of the tape came so suddenly, but this five minute segment gives you a good idea of what it's like to drive on Italy's famous Amalfi Coast. We had fun! So, here it is presented the first of two tours of the house. This one is a slightly incomplete tour (tape ran out) while the house is occupied, full of warmth and our mess. This is one of our favorite homes away from home. It is the only place we have returned to five times! It is also impossible to adequately record this amazing house in still photographs, and it proved very difficult to record the feeling of the house in video. So, here it is presented two tours of the house. The first is a slightly incomplete tour (tape ran out) while the house is occupied, full of warmth and our mess. The second tour is more complete but lacks warmth because it was obtained as we were leaving. Sandbridge Beach is 20 minutes and a world away from the commercialism of Virginia Beach. Our Perillo Tours Familia is guided thru the inside of the Doge's Palace in Venice. "Perhaps the most spectacular room is the Grand Council chamber or Sala del Maggior Consiglio, originally the meeting place for the legislature. This huge space is lined, walls and ceiling, with paintings, particularly portraits of the Doges, but one of which, Tintoretto's vast Paradise, is reputedly the world's largest painting on canvas." - Wikipedia. This presentation is the best attempt possible at obtaining perspective of one of the largest indoor rooms in Europe, containing a painting that can't be described in words, in a space where they won't allow video. Several thousand more non-repetitive pictures could have been obtained in the halls of the Vatican Museum, and much better pictures of the Sistine Chapel could have been obtained if proper video had been allowed. Then, Pope Benedict VXI gave his Wednesday blessing of the crowd in St. Peter's Square. The youngest member of our Perillo Tours Familia pointed out that "it really should be called St. Peter's Circle", and right she is! Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines "Voyager of the Seas" Day 1: Welcome to the Royal Suite!
Our Voyager adventure begins! The kids say "Awesome!" and "Looks more like a mall than a ship." Welcome to the Royal Suite! This is the nicest stateroom on one of the largest passenger ships in the world. In fact, when the Voyager of the Seas was launched in 1999, it was the largest passenger ship ever built, and set a whole new standard to which the cruise ship industry still aspires. Although my family is a pretty tough crowd to please, this was considered a very nice stateroom.
