The Town Hall meeting introduced the coalition to a larger audience, opened dialogue and doors of communication between MAC and the community. This was accomplished by providing MAC with a platform where it introduced and presented itself and its programs, and gave community members direct access to MAC for a direct conversation. The panel was comprised of two MAC representatives; Boubker Abisorour, MAC V.P. and Hassan Samrhouni, MAC Exec Board Member and two experienced community activists Latifa ElHadri and Hamid Mernissi. The questions received by email from the community were asked by the moderator, while the attendees had the floor open to ask their own. A fundraising at Morocco's ambassador's official residence fo Mr. salman Belayachi who is preparing a walk of a thousand miles, starting from Laayoun ending his walk in Tangier. Mr. Belayachi said that the purpose of the walk is to engage directly the citizens along his path and stressing the values of citizenship, active participation in the process of development, discarding negative feelings, regaining hope and taking responsability for one's faith. The fundraiser was heavily attended and donations were above what was expected by Mr Belayachi and his " Le citoyen Marocain" team that converged on the nation's capital from New York, Texas, Florida, Maryland and other states. Moroccan Female Teen Soccer Players: Soccer Playing and Life Skills
Ten Moroccan girls and their two female coaches participated in a Sports Visitors program for the office of SportUnited, a program organized by US Dept of States Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The group spent twelve days in the U.S. improving their soccer skills, learning to be leaders, and meeting with their American contemporaries. Their fast paced program included five soccer clinics organized by U.S. Mens National Team coach Jay Miller and Washington Freedoms Clive Watson. Jay Miller and former Womens National Team Member, Lorrie Fair, served as Sports Envoys to Morocco last spring. Mr. Miller jumped at the chance to continue to work with the Moroccan girls. Another highlight for the group was the opportunity to meet and speak with girls their own age. From practicing with the D.C. At her reading, organized by Algonquin Books, Washington Moroccan Club and Border Books, in Washington DC, Moroccan American Author, Laila Lalami, described the central character of her second novel in English, "Secret Son", as a poor young man in contemporary Morocco, his aspirations of education and escape from the Casablanca Slum where he lives with his mother, the revelation that his father is still alive and doing well and his sub-sequential adventures. In a lively Q&A session following her presentation, She refused to be seen as anything but a novelist, "I am not pretending to know my native country Morocco any more than anyone else". She said that she does not necessarily aim to do social criticism, or write about any particular issue, her main focus as a novelist, is to write a story as best I can. The CORCAS delegation, on a visit to Washington, met with the Moroccan American community. The delegation was headed by its president Khalihenna Ould Errachid. Journalist Who interviewed President Obama Speaks on Morocco as a Venue for Speech
At an event in Washington, Mr. Hisham Melhem, the Washington bureau chief for al-Arabiya TV, who scored the first television interview granted by President Barack Obama, Spoke to MoroccoBoard TV about what that interview means for future changes in the relations between America and the Arab/Muslim world. Mr. Melhem said that he felt that the gesture amounted to an unprecedented reach-out to the Muslim world by a U.S. President. He said that Obama spoke about his own Islamic connections, that some of his family members are Muslim and that he had lived in the largest Muslim country, Indonesia. Hoping for a low profile for the RFK HR Award for Aminatou Hiadar does not necessarily make make it so. Kerry Kennedy, the daughter of the late Robert Kennedy and the founder of the RFK center for Justice & Human Rights introduced Aminatou Haidar and presented her with the Award. Ms Kerry Kennedy was very biased in her description of the situation in Morocco's Southern provinces and presented an Anti-morocco narrative to the audience. She described morocco as if it was the apartheid regime in South Africa or the Pol Pot Regime in Cambodia.
