  • BCR loves to help out and support wild feline conservation. We were recently asked to participate in a project that collected fecals from captive snow leopards, in order to be used to train dogs to identify the smell. These dogs will then be used out in snow leopard habitat to better help the researchers. Helping out the snow leopard is important as lets face it, the leopard doesn’t have the fact that people can ride up to it sleeping on the plains on a jeep and grow fascinated by it like the lion. It lives in rugged areas that see very little tourism. For more info on this great project check out: www.snowleopard.org and also: www.workingdogsforconservation. Thanks for watching and be sure to check out our other cat videos. www.bigcatrescue.org

  • Our animal enrichment program is always looking for new and safe ways to keep our cats entertained. Senior keeper Barbara came up with an idea of wrapping cow tails up in paper so that the tigers had to work for their treats. Watch as the tigers get cow tails for the first time. This pod cast also includes some tiger facts as well. With around 5,000 of these animal left in the wild, we need to take action right now for their survival. Human over population and illegal trade in their body parts have led them to the brink of extinction. We simply need to support programs that save their habitat around the globe. • Whenever you have to treat a big cat, it is a risk. Sometimes they can react poorly to being put under for simple procedures. And don’t forget the fact that you are working around a very dangerous animal. Recently we had the chance to neuter Saber the black leopard. And we also took this opportunity to give him a check up, weigh him, and move him to another enclosure back on the tour path were he likes to look at the silly people. Follow along as Dr. Liz and Scott make it all look so easy. (Go knock the cat out, neuter him, weigh him, give him a reversal, and you’re all done.) Big Cat Rescue is an animal sanctuary and we do not breed out cats. We spay and neuter our animals just as you should with your own pets. *some surgery scenes may be graphic for some viewers* For more info: www.bigcatrescue.org *music by: Hall and Oates

  • It is upsetting that the fur industry is still going strong after all these years. I am sure we all have seen the shocking animal rights videos showing the horrible scenes of an animal being electrocuted at a fur ranch or a fox caught in a trap in the wild simply for its fur. At Big Cat Rescue we have several beautiful lynx and bobcats that were destined to be slaughtered for a patch of their belly fur. Watching these magnificent animals grow up and have the best life one can while in captivity really makes you think...is it worth it to destroy any wildlife just for something we no longer need? We no longer live in times that fur is the only thing keeping us warm. Animals are killed simply for fashion. Just like we now have big business and mass production in the slaughter house industry it also now reigns over and feeds off of the fur trade. Isn't it time to say enough is enough? Please don't wear fur. www.bigcatrescue.org

  • So many times we get asked why we get our endangered animals fixed?...well, in this video we address that subject. In short- believe it or not, there are more captive tigers than wild tigers and that is something we do not like. The cats we get fixed serve no purpose for the future of their species (not a part of the SSP) other than educating the public. We do tours of our facility and educate the public about captive and wild tigers and we send funds to tiger conservation projects overseas. We hope that one day the problem of people owning and breeding tigers as pets will be a thing of the past. To learn more about what you can do to keep people from owning tigers as well as what you can do to keep the tigers in the wild safe go to: www.bigcatrescue.org Together we can put the emphasis and our resources back into keeping the tiger in the wild.
