Lynne Stewart: My Fight for Justice in "Patriot Act" USA
Lynne Stewart: My Fight for Justice in "Patriot Act" USA www.lynnestewart.org Introduction by Ashlee Albies, chair, Portland National Lawyers Guild www.portlandnlg.org Radical human rights attorney Lynne Stewart is acclaimed for defending poor people, radicals of color and controversial figures. Because of this she has been falsely accused of helping terrorists. Now convicted, she recently received a 28 month sentence, but is free on bail pending appeal. On Tuesday, April 9, 2002, she was arrested and agents searched her Manhattan office for documents. She was arraigned before Manhattan federal Judge John Koeltl. This is an obvious attempt by the U.S. government to silence dissent, curtail vigorous defense lawyers, and install fear in those who would fight against the U.S. government's racism, seek to help Arabs and Muslims being prosecuted for free speech and defend the rights of all oppressed people. Lynne Stewart was in Portland, March 6, 2007, at Portland State University, as part of a West coast fund...

Thom Hartmann www.thomhartmann.com Thom is the author of the new book, " Screwed: The UNDECLARED WAR Against the Middle Class - and what we can do about it" "The American middle class is on its deathbed. Ordinary folks who put in a solid day's work can no longer afford to buy a house, send their kids to college, or even get sick. If you're not a CEO, you're probably screwed. In his latest book, Air America host Thom Hartmann shows how the American middle class that was so carefully constructed by our country's founding fathers has been systematically dismantled over the past quarter-century, and, under the guise of freeing the market, replaced by a system designed to line the pockets of the super-rich and corporations. Hartmann shows that it's not too late to return to the America our founders envisioned. Democracy requires a fair playing field. It will survive only if We the People stand up, speak out, and reclaim our democratic birthright." Corporate Personhood www.ecporegon.org "Return Democracy to We ...
"... for every gallon of gas you buy, there is human blood in it." Omoyele Sowore spoke at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon on November 15, 2006. Omoyele Sowore is a Nigerian Oil activist traveling through the United States educating people about tragic conditions in his country caused by our planetary addiction to petroleum. He spoke of the pollution of the Niger delta in Africa, of torture, of rampant and escalating poverty in a country producing 2.5 million barrels of oil a day, 25% of which goes to the United States. Niger is the 6th largest producer of oil in the world. Omoyele tells the story of the ongoing destruction of the Niger Delta, not as a series of statistics, but as how it affected him growing up, affected his education and finally forced him to abandon his country in order to carry a message few people in the developed countries really want to hear or seriously consider. These remarks were not directed specifically to save his country, but more broadly, to include all people, a...

A RADICAL BLACKFOOT TEACHES THE ECONOMICS OF GLOBALIZATION
"I'm not committing any crimes but daring to say what I'm saying... counter views are welcome, counter arguments are welcome... whatever it is, its welcome." Jim M. Craven (Omahkohkiaayo i'poyi), Professor of Economics and Business Division Chair at Clark College/Vancouver, speaks at the Globalization of Homelessness and Poverty Community Lecture Series, Washington State University/Vancouver. January 27th, 2005 From the website: www.aradicalblackfoot.blogspot.com I am a member of the Blackfoot Nation and also hold U.S. and Canadian citizenships. I was kicked out of high school at sixteen years old and "served"--or "disserved" depending upon point of view--in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966; in a certain way, this was a blessing and a real and significant factor in my getting a real education. For revenge, I became a Professor of Economics and hopefully real educator. I was invited to become--which I never once sought in any way--a biographical subject in several Marquis "Who's Whos": "Who's Who in: The Wo...

Lt. Ehren Watada is the first commissioned officer to refuse deployment to the Iraq war and occupation. Lt. Watada spoke at the Langston Hughes Cultural Arts Center in Seattle, Washington, on January 27th, 2007. "In opposition to my position, the argument will be made that soldiers don't have a right to pick and choose their wars. I would respond that it is not only our right but our constitutional and moral duty." "Many seem to forget that service members swear loyalty not to one man or an institution but to this country and its people. We don't swear to fight in wars or just do our job, nor blindly obey orders, but to protect the promise, principles and laws of this country at all costs." "Our country has been led in the wrong direction, an illegal and immoral direction. But to know our country was sent to war and devastated another civilization over falsehoods is something I will never stand for." For updates on Lt. What if you live in the most destructive culture ever to exist? What if that culture refuses to change? What do you do about it? Derrick Jensen: Endgame Part Two www.endgamethebook.org www.derrickjensen.org Derrick Jensen named Press Action Person of the Year for 2006 From the Press Action website www.pressaction.com "The recipient of this award was never in doubt. Derrick Jensen's Endgame, released in late spring, was the best work of nonfiction in 2006. Given the significance of its subject matter and the urgency of Jensen's message, Endgame is the most important book of the decade and could stand as the must-read book of our lifetimes. But be careful. The book is likely to send you into periods of despondency over the bleak future of the planet. But Jensen explains that if enough of us stand up and work together to fight the fascists, the crash won't be as devastating. And the long struggle will eventually result in an explosive renewal of all forms of life on the planet." From the website www.endgamet...
