Rome Floods December 2008. Rome Italy www.romanlife-romeitaly.com The video shows thePonte Sant' Angelo Bridge in Rome Italy , in front of Castel Sant' Angelo. There are about 5 boats (house boats, barges, and a Tevere dinner/tour cruise boat) that due to the Rome floods have broken free from their moorings. The have been crushed and wedged between the arches of the bridge. The situation is quite dangerous because the boats are obstructing the flow of water. To prevent any further rising of water and pressure against thePonte Sant' Angelo the fire service have been ordered to dismantle the boats. You can appreciate the height of the water if you consider that the normal level of the water is about 1 to 2 meters below the cycling lane and the cycling lane is now about 7 meters under water! --- For more info and pictures of the Rome floods you can visit my website: www.romanlife-romeitaly.com
www.romanlife-romeitaly.com The Spanish Steps Rome Italy (once residence to the Spanish ambassador in the 1600s)is known in Italian as Piazza di Spagna (Spanish square). They lead up to the Trinita dei Monti, where the views over Rome Italy are spectacular. The fountain at the bottom of the Spanish Steps is called "Fontana della Barcaccia" - old useless boat - and was designed by Bernini. This area in the 17th and 18th century was the tourist heart of Rome. --- My videos are an attempt at helping you get a feel for Roman life and what it may be like strolling through Rome Italy. Let me know how I am doing... For more info on the Spanish steps or Rome Italy you can visit my website: http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com

http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com This performance was by Nova Amadeus on the 6th January 2009 in the Santa Maria Sopra Minerva Church, Rome Italy - only a few steps from the Pantheon. I had goosebumps throughout this unforgettable experience, unfortunately not even this video can do justice as to how inspirational it was to be present amongst such history and art and then to listen to some of the greatest music from our history... The Church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva is one of Rome's better kept secrets. Built in the 14 hundreds its richly ordained interior has some exquisite art representing some of the greatest periods and styles of artistic history. http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com

http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com St Peters Basilica is often referred to as a cathedral, however it is not the seat of a bishop, so it is referred to as a Basilica. Rome's cathedral is actually San Giovanni in Laterano seat of Rome's bishop. St Peters was the biggest church in the world, it's now 2nd biggest after the Basilica of our lady of peace in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast, West Africa. To the right off the entrance lies "La Pieta" by Michelangelo. http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com

http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com St. John Lateran is the oldest Basilica of the western world built in 314 by Costantino. Since then, the Cathedral suffered a lot of damages due to fires, hearthquakes and lootings. Everytime it was rebuilt trying to preserve its original glory. The main facade we admire today was built in 1736 by Alessandro Galilei. http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com
http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com The ancient Roman Colosseum as it's incorrectly called was better known as the Flavius amphitheatre. Perhaps the 35m high Statue of Nero "The Colossus" that stood outside the Colosseum is where the modern name comes from?
