Caring for old dogs in Japan
Cool Japan -- Japanese TV series. This episode looks at 'decoration' in Japan. Superb feature is a truck driver's massive decoration of the Virgin Mary plastered... well, painted, gloriously all over his truck. Bauble-encrusted keitais, gold-plated food, nado nado. Oh, and if you ever send a Japanese friend a proper Christmas cake, and it has a notice 'Remove decoration before eating', make sure you tell them it's only referring to the silk ribbon, the plastic holly, etc. Otherwise they'll remove the icing like my friends did! Oh, ambiguity.

課外授業ようこそ先輩 http://www.nhk.or.jp/kagaijugyou/list/list1.html The guy responsible for the Japanese song version of an old pome (see e.g. here http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=WEZBDNV3h9I) goes back to his old school to take his kouhai, some 45 years younger than him, through a very moving experience of tasting a kind of death, and of finding a role in life. Excellent.

BEER CM SONG
Too much head? Are beer bubbles beer, legally speaking? During the war, a drinker discontented with the volume of his glass taken up by the head on his pint decided to take the publican to court.
'Allegorical Aquarium'. When Fourth Year student Joseph McNally saw Harry Hill chide a member of the audience for suggesting 'Crisps', with 'Crisps? It's not a system, is it?... Broaden it to snacks, and now you're talking', he recalled Year One classes on Classification and Nomenclature. We could go on for hours discussing this; whether 'allegorical' has any justification other than its alliterative resonance with 'aquarium'; if we could make up a 'Metaphorical Museum', etc... but since we're not getting paid, we won't.
