  • One of the most important things George Washington ever did was to quit. At the end of his presidency, Washington was approached to be king of America and start a royal dynasty here like they had in England. A lot of important people wanted him to be king and he could have easily assumed that position. George Washington thought this new country should be governed by its people and not have a king. To his honorable credit, he refused to become king and resigned to go back to civilian life. This farewell address was a turning point in American history. This video contains excerpts from the speech.

  • In 1940 Adolph Hitler had conquered all of Europe except for a small island off the coast of France who refused to be conquered. This island was all that stood between Hitler and complete conquest in Europe. This island is Great Britain. Great Britain held off Hitler until the United States entered the war and that resilience and determination was the beginning of the end of Hitler. Without Great Britain, the Allies would have no foothold from which to invade Europe driving Hitler into his underground hole with the rest of the sewer rats. Winston Churchill was right when he called this "Their Finest Hour".

  • In June of 1776, a committee of the Second Continental Congress consisting of John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, Thomas Jefferson of Virginia, Robert R. Livingston of New York, and Roger Sherman of Connecticut (the "Committee of Five") was formed to draft a suitable declaration to frame this resolution. The committee decided that Jefferson would write the draft, which he showed to Franklin and Adams. Prior to deciding on Jefferson, both Adams and Franklin turned down the offer, citing that if they wrote it people would read it with a biased eye. Franklin himself made at least 48 corrections, including changing the slogan "Life, Liberty and Property" to "Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness." Jefferson then produced another copy incorporating these changes, and the committee presented this copy to the Continental Congress on June 28, 1776. This video contains excerpts from the document.

  • Babe Ruth's farewell speech to baseball. His voice is raspy because he has throat cancer, it later killed him. George Herman Ruth, Jr. (February 6, 1895 -- August 16, 1948), also popularly known as "Babe", "The Bambino", and "The Sultan of Swat", was an American Major League baseball player from 1914 to 1935. Named the greatest baseball player in history in various surveys and rankings, his home run hitting prowess and charismatic personality made him a larger than life figure in the "Roaring Twenties".

  • The Gettysburg Address is the most famous speech of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln and one of the most quoted speeches in United States history. It was delivered at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on the afternoon of Thursday, November 19, 1863, during the American Civil War, four and a half months after the Union armies defeated those of the Confederacy at the decisive Battle of Gettysburg. Abraham Lincoln's carefully crafted address came to be regarded as one of the greatest speeches in American history. In just over two minutes, and using only 272 words, Lincoln invoked the principles of human equality espoused by the Declaration of Independence and redefined the Civil War as a struggle not merely for the Union, but as "a new birth of freedom" that would bring true equality to all of its citizens, and that would also create a unified nation in which states' rights were no longer dominant.

  • Lee was the son of Major General Henry Lee III "Light Horse Harry" (1756--1818), Governor of Virginia, and his second wife, Anne Hill Carter (1773--1829). He was a descendant of Sir Thomas More and of King Robert II of Scotland through the Earls of Crawford. A top graduate of West Point, Lee distinguished himself as an exceptional soldier in the U.S. Army for 32 years, during which time he fought in the Mexican-American War. In early 1861, Lee opposed the secession of his home state of Virginia, but rejected President Abraham Lincoln's offer to give him command of Union forces. When Virginia seceded from the Union in April 1861, Lee chose to follow his home state. Lee's role in the newly established Confederacy was to serve as a senior military adviser to President Jefferson Davis. Lee's first field command for the Confederate States came in June 1862 when he took command of the Confederate forces in the East (which Lee himself renamed the "Army of Northern Virginia").

  • Jesus describes GOD as "Our Father", a revolutionary new way to look at GOD that makes HIM easier for us to understand. A good parent would never forsake a child, even though the child was imperfect. How much better is GOD than a mortal parent so we can be assured that HE will never forsake us even though we are imperfect.

  • Cohan is arguably the most honored American entertainer. On June 29, 1936, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt presented him with The Congressional Gold Medal of Honor for his contributions to World War I morale, in particular the songs "You're a Grand Old Flag" and "Over There". In 1959, at the behest of lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, a $100,000 bronze statue of Cohan was dedicated in Times Square, at Broadway and 46th Street in Manhattan. The 8-foot bronze remains the only statue of an actor on Broadway. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970, and into the American Folklore Hall of Fame in 2003.
