With this one I have no one to blame but myself. I hated the last issue I read but it was kind of a light week so I thought I’d give it another try hoping that it would at least have something to do with the Invasion. Boy was I wrong. It was as slow and insignificant as the last issue I reviewed here. On one hand it is graduation day for the current class of heroes in training and on the other the instructors are caught up in a hearing to discuss what is going on in the initiative and why it has had so many problems. It’s dull, there is no real connection to the characters and it reads like the beauracratic dribble that the initiative itself was born from. Bore me once shame on you, bore me twice shame on me. I won’t let it happen again and I won’t be picking up this title again.

The Prophet: Daniel Corey & Anthony Diecidue Interview 1
Devin Chats With Daniel Corey & Anthony Diecidue - The Creative Team For The Comic Book: "The Prophet"
Welcome back zappers, Im Devin Curry with http://Shazap.com. Your online video source for comic book news and reviews. Follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/devincurry. You know I was a little suspicious at the end of the last issue when Osborn showed up at Pete's place because no one was supposed to know his identity any more so I was refreshed to see that they had not changed that. The menace stuff with Harry is really starting to show. He had the red eyes and showed some of that family rage after his dad showed up. The real action in this issue though was what happened with Eddie Brock. We talked last week about what Mr. Negative was doing to Eddie over at feast and wondered what he had in store for him but this I did not expect. At first I thought the symbiot was leaving Gargan to go back to Eddie Brock now that he had a healthy body again but then again he doesnât have the anger any more to feed Venom. So what did happen was Eddie Brock turning into the Anti Venom. The question now is was ...

We can all breathe a little easier this week, Spidey is back and the writers were able to maintain the quality that was brought in the New Ways to Die Arch. Since his introduction I’ve had my eye on Mr Negative as I felt he had a lot of potential to be a solid villain for our favorite wall crawler and there was enough mystery around him to keep it interesting. Oh, and the Hammer, formerly known as Hammer Head, wow. Look at that DC Marvel can resurrect some D listers and make them badass too. They’ve really done amazing work with this character and hooray Spiderman has someone respectable to fight. One thing I’ve really got to hand to these writers is how they are able to bring the humor into this book without cheapening the action and drama of it. Spiderman himself has always been funny but the tone of the ...

Secret invasion Series Overview - Comic Review - Shazap.com
Welcome back zappers, Im Devin Curry with http://Shazap.com. Your online video source for comic book news and reviews. Follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/devincurry. This series started strong but has fizzled as of late. There was so much depth to this story within marvel continuity that it made this story very intriguing. The problem is that marvel started focusing on the depth and not the story. Rather than moving the story forward they continued looking back not even at how they got there but just what was going on behind what we thought we knew. There was also not a lot to the story basically all they have is the skrull invasion and the earth's counter attack. They haven't filled the gaps with anything but Fury's new recruits but they didn't make that very interesting. I would have liked to have seen more of the regrouping and planning for how to strike back. I wanted to hear how the heroes feel about some of their friends and loved ones turning out to be Skrulls and how their dealing with ...
Welcome back zappers, Im Devin Curry with http://Shazap.com. Your online video source for comic book news and reviews. Follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/devincurry. So in the last review I started to speak of consistency in this title and how it is jumping from story to story and lacking the cohesiveness to really keep it a solid story. Here we go again. No follow up with hammerhead or Mr Negative. I mean come on half of the street kids in Manhattan were just killed not to mention almost our favorite wall crawler on Mr Negative’s orders, but I’m sure Spidey wouldn’t make finding him a priority. No, he needs to train for his cabby job and run off on an adventure with the punisher. Don’t get me wrong this is a good story but not up to the level that this book has been of lat and where it would be. But hey, at least we got to see the bookie back in action. What is it with that character and why is he still here. The whole spider tracer mystery has been hanging ...
One word, boring! Why oh why did they even bother? Seriously if they are that pressed for a story why not just take the month off? I would prefer that to the garbage I just wasted 3 bucks on. The whole story is Peter describing to the biggest dog ate my homework excuse ever as his and Kity’s “baby” gets destroyed during a fight at the Daily Bugle with Omega Red. This is possibly the biggest travesty of all they took a badass villain from the regular marvel U and reduced him to a joke. He’s handled with a couple of pounces and a vending machine to the face with no real threat or strength at all. The story is painfully monotone and just all around lame. Don’t waste your time with this one. I’ve come toexpect so much more from Bendis. The only good thing is that issues like this are usually the fillers between more significant stories so next month should be a lot better.
All right boys and girls the big time summer events from DC are finally here and this is where it all starts. This book is a preview of what is to come in the world of your favorite DC characters. For those of you who stuck it out through countdown this is the final thread connecting the DC Universe to the Final crises and all the stories to be included. DC even includes ads for the upcoming books after the arcs after each segment with the subtlety of a stampeding elephant. We get a taste of Batman RIP, Green Lantern Darkest Night, Wonder Woman Whom the Gods Forsaken and all the crisis titles to come. It wouldn’t be a crisis if something major wasn’t happening to a flash and there is even a tease about that. This book did its’ job and did what countdown could not. It got me excited about DC’s summer events. At only 50 cents this book is definitely a must have and will get you ready to go.
shazap.com In this issue the all the stories that have been started since Brand New Day began are starting to come back around. Now that the snow has melted life gets back to normal in NYC and everyone comes out to play. This title is in a weird place because the story and themes are pretty good but the writing is in an almost juvenile place. It is over simplified and the dialog is way dumbed down. I get that they are trying to take Peter back with the brand new day but how far back has he gone. This is reminiscent of when Peter was in college, but he’s been out for a long time, and what about all of the power ups and evolutions that Spiderman has undergone. What about the events of the Other series, the stuff with Ezekiel, and when his webs became organic right before the avengers disassembled. Some of the loose ends within the Brand New Day arch are beginning to get tied up, but what about the continuity in the rest of the marvel universe. I’ll stick around just to see how they pull it off and ...
shazap.com This issue continues to follow nick fury in his preparation for the skrull invasion. It takes place six months ago and follows nick fury as he starts to assemble a team of super powered kids just as they start to discover their powers. Knowing that there are no current heroes that he can trust he goes after the ones that no one knows exists. He makes a great statement when he says that if you want to make sure you don’t get a rotten apple that you pick it from the tree and not the ground and so he goes after the kids that were part of his secret caterpillar files and brings them all together. We know that he’s made contact with the black widow and that the queen of the skrulls has decided to take her but we don’t know how that will effect our story yet, as she doesn’t appear in this issue. I can’t wait to see how this is going to come into play when the story catches up to the current time line. Will Nick Fury be able to save the world again?
Welcome back zappers, Im Devin Curry with http://Shazap.com. Your online video source for comic book news and reviews. Follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/devincurry. So this book was just as useless and irrelevant as last week’s Mighty Avengers book but at least this was more interesting. The one thing that I have liked most of all about this series was how deep the story went into marvel continuity so I do appreciate this story but think that it belonged somewhere else. I did enjoy seeing how the skrulls dealt with the House of M but I think Marvel is doing itself and its readers a disservice by making so many Secret Invasion tie ins with out them relating to the story itself. We don’t need all of this. The whole secret invasion story should have been told within the two avengers titles and this stuff should have been made available in outside stories. They’ve drawn it out too long and not had enough payoff outside of the core story. I’m just ready for this story ...
Welcome back zappers, Im Devin Curry with http://Shazap.com. Your online video source for comic book news and reviews. Follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/devincurry. Despite my better judgment I continue to read this book. I'd rather not admit it but I am actually starting to enjoy it. It is an interesting else world story that has made some interesting reading. I hate to admit it but I am actually starting to feel connected to the characters and I'm feeling a little sorry for Ape X, he's a good guy and is starting to get pulled into the a situation that he knows nothing about. The actions is starting to heat up and the prospect of Captain America vs Vampire Captain America actually has me a little excited about the next issue. I guess this week I was lucky that there was such a small selection on the shelf. Dude on your light weeks this is actually worth picking up. Don't worry about the earlier issues you aren't missing much and this is where it all gets started. Distributed by Tubemogul.

shazap.com Sickening, absolutely disgusting! OK Those of you who have been watching shazap for a while may remember one of my earliest rants about how terrible it was that they had Peter Parker lurking in a tree taking pictures of a private funeral like some lowly paparazzi, well it has officially come to pass. Peter Parker is now officially a member of the paparazzi. At least the other characters seam to be as disgusted by it as I am. I am just not yet convinced by this new direction. I don’t get it. There does seam to be something interesting about the nnew villain, well soon to be villain, that is introduced named paper doll. I’ll stick with it because that’s what I do but seriously they almost had me back and then they have the panel of Spidey swinging by with his camera and a montage of his celeb shots behind him. It just baffles me.
shazap.com So I guess this was the conclusion of Logan’s quest to kill mystique. We’ve had some amazing action leading up to this point in the previous books as well as this one. Last issue ended with Mystique looking like an NRA Centerfold waiting for Logan. She had set up a number of traps and surprise surprise wolverine gets shot, blown up, burned, cut and everything else just to get to Mystique. It wouldn’t be a wolverine book if there weren’t a few panels of him mangled and burned. Like all the other issues the fights are good but he ending was pretty disappointing after all that battle he just leaves her to bleed out. It’s all a bit too predictable I mean we’ve seen this before in the comic book world you know that no one is dead unless you watch them die. Even then they’ve got a pretty good chance of coming back. Plus wolverine is a killer killin’ is what he does best and that’s why we read his books. I just feel a little robbed.
This was a huge case of leaping before I looked. It was a light week so I saw that there was a first issue on the shelf and I grabbed it. Little did I know that it is apparently something to do with the Top Cow titles Darkness, Magdalena, and possibly Witch Blade too. The story was entertaining enough in itself but there was not much explanation or back story. If you are into any of the Top Cow titles then you will probably like this one. If you are looking for art look elsewhere. It wasnât bad, but it was just blaw. The fight between the Magdalena and the angel was pretty cool but it didnât have much fluidity in its sequencing. If this was meant to draw in new readers it didnât work. However, if you are a Top Cow reader then you probably still wonât be that entertained it just wasnât that exciting.
The brave and the bold is a collection of one shot team ups with the major DC characters. They are good reads on light days and when they involve your favorite characters. This issue, written by Mark Waid and drawn by Scott Kolins follows and adventure with Nightwing and Hawkman. This was a really entertaining story. As someone who loves the character of Nightwing it was cool to see not only his position with the other heroes in the DCU but also his brilliance for strategy and leadership. Hawkman wasnâtâ really involved much other that antique consultant and letting Nightwing borrow his flying device. We got a bonus in this issue also with some good green arrow and dead man action as well. Again this issue was a really good read but if theyâre not characters that youâre into then you can do without this title.
Welcome back zappers, Im Devin Curry with http://Shazap.com. Your online video source for comic book news and reviews. Follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/devincurry. This issue wasnât that great. In fact it was a little âDays of Our Livesâ meaning there wasnât much action and it focused on the relationships within the team. Beast Boy and Raven had a little heart to heart and so did Nightwing and Starfire. The most exciting thing in this issue was Starfire climbing out of the pool. Ravenâs demonic side has been unleashed by her brothers and they took her away with them so in the next issue itâs Titanâs to the rescue. Youâve got to wonder if the Titanâs will ever start to resent Raven. I know it is something that is constantly on Ravenâs mind but seriously half of their adventures are dealing with Ravenâs family. She is also a demon and if she shows too much of that side this time it might be too much for the team to forgive. I guess weâll have to wait and see. Distributed ...
This is one of my favorite new books. I am new to the title I love the writing, the tone of the book and themes it carries and the art is incredible. The current arch comes to a fitting end as Thor finds closer for his guilt in not being able to bring his father back and the two of them stand side by side in battle in another great battle with Surtur and the father and son team lay the hurt on. There is a great twist in the search for Sif, who has not been able to return as her spirit is trapped within a mortal body and the appearance of this new female Loki type character. I have totally been drawn in and for the first time since Adventures in Baby Sitting I am a Thor fan. Strazynski’s style is very well suited for the character and the art is exiting and grand. The next issue looks like a great issue to get in on but only 8 issues in there are not that many back issues to go and pick up. I start my hunt tomorrow.
I can not believe the intricacy of this story. Every issue that comes from the secret invasion reveals more of marvel history and continuity that is wrapped up in this arch. I just happened to go back this weekend and reread the beginning of the new avengers series that involved the savage land stuff that came into play this issue and that it was the skrulls that were mining the vibranium. I was like “of course it was them”. It’s great that Ka Zar and the savage land crew have even been playing a part in this it. Marvel really is including all of its’ universe. They leave us with a great cliff hanger as Captain America busts through the trees ready to take out the savage landers. Now, if Cap is a Skrull, of course he wants to take out Ka Zar, but he’s also been vouched for. Who knows.
