What does one say about a singer/songwriter of this magnitude? That he or she is amazing? That he or she must been be heard? Well Andy Tubman is that individual. His music is beautiful, inspiring and heart-felt. In his band are the very best musicians. Francis Galura is on the drums, Joe Karnes is on the bass and Cisco Deluna is on lap steele. Francis and Joe are so plugged into each other's playing you would think that they were separated at birth. Andy Tubman is the real deal. You can say that you heard it here first.
Lavender Diamond is lead by singer/songwriter Rebecca Stark. A sweet, young woman from the mid-West, Rebecca teamed up with college friend Elvis Perkins to form the group. Elvis plays the guitar with warmth and clarity, while Rebecca, a trained opera singer, sings in a truly angelic voice. Lavender Diamond's music is so dreamy that you might mistake it for a fairytale. The peaceful tone in Rebecca's voice can be enjoyed morning or night. Either way, Lavender Diamond is too special to miss.
We know about Angelo from Fishbone - the man getting the Holy Ghost on stage every night through his mic and his saxophone. The man who spends as much time on top of the crowd as on stage. But where did he come from? Around 1995, Angelo began writing and performing as Dr. Madd Vibe. He uses his experiences growing up as a "fly in the buttermilk" in the predominantly white suburbs of the San Fernando Valley as inspiration. He talks about racism, social corrosion, and the human condition in "a world gone mad"- the politics of relationships in America today. In 1996 and '97 Angelo put out the first Dr. Madd Vibe CD, book and video. The trio was called "The Missing link presents the Dr. Madd Vibe's Comprehensive Linkology". In 1999, Dr. Madd Vibe started spreading the word across the states, hitting the Midwest, the East Coast and the South. What's coming up next? More CD's, more videos, more books and more shows. More of everything. And let's not forget the website - we have lots of goodies to throw your way.
Primeodawnutt - In 2001, the legendary, influential and voraciously eclectic band Fishbone arrived to record their newest material at the Henhouse, a free community recording studio. The only rule: leave your shoes at the door. The film centers primarily on the creation and recording of the songs in the studio - giving a privileged viewpoint as if one were a member of the band. Band documentaries may come and go - but this is Fishbone. Way up close.

A Renaissance man in the truest sense of the word, Paul, the man behind Bumble Bear, is a musician, a painter, a photographer and a damn nice guy. His songs, similar to his paintings and photographs, are very surreal. Paul's music evokes many dream-like images. Best described as trance/rock with a classical music structure, listening to Bumble Bear's music is an emotional journey. There are highs and lows. Quiet times and loud ones too. But in the end, the listener is left thoroughly entertained.-www.HenHouseStudios.com

Universal Translators is lead by the rapper/producer Natty Roots. This is one of the few rap groups that combine conscious lyrics with slamming beats. Natty Roots co-produced the track along with June 22. Natty Roots performed all the vocals. He is an extremely talented lyricist. In 1995 Max signed with Warner Music. Later that year Warner releases her EP, Coma. A warped celebration of revenge, humor, and post-modern genre blending, Coma hits the top ten nationally and is voted the eighth most popular song of the year by Australia's JJJ Network. Her follow-up album, A Million Year Girl, is stunning - if not schizophrenic in scope and ambition, bold in execution and deliriously individual. Pop hooks, beautiful orchestrations, lovingly-crafted poetic pieces - the depth and ease of Max's musical range hold you spellbound. Her songs range from predestined hits like Coma, to the visceral falsetto of Crashlanding! to the surreal and intrepid gypsy rondo U Cradled Me. A Million Year Girl elicits a strong response from the press & reaches platinum status. She is nominated for 8 Aria Awards.
Many people ask us how we got the name H.B. Surround Sound. So here it is for all that don't know. All five of us grew up in Huntington Beach, leading to the H.B. Each member of the band was influenced by different as well as similar styles of music. While Jon Jon was pounding his bongos to his impressive reggae collection, Doug was learning as many Heavy Metal, MetallicA, NOFX, and Led Zepplin riffs that he could. Matt and Jake were submerged into the Beatles, classic rock, and punk; while Mike was listening to everything and mastering it. In high school we all were deep in the local music scene as we still are today. This is where we got Surround Sound. All of the different varieties and styles of music and sounds we heard that surrounded us as we grew up now come out in our music.

Aya Peard's project was a reunion of sorts for this group of very talented musicians. Singer/songwriter Aya Peard assembled the group that hadn't played together in over five years. With Phil Kettner on guitar, Michael Renninger on bass and Paul Pellegrin on drums and percussion, Aya Peard sang her heart out in our studio. Aya is a spiritual individual, practicing yoga on a daily basis. With the voice of an angel, Aya spreads her warm energy and mystical sounds to all those listening. Her songs are heart-felt, drawing from experiences of love and pain. The dreamy mood of their music will send you floating off to distant lands. Hen House Studios was pleased to be the place where Aya Peard's music was discovered once again.
Baba Alade, grew up in Watts, California and approaches his folk/ blues from his urban roots, armed with Banjo in hand. Baba is a poetic wordsmith who sings of love, lost and found through sweet melodies that resonate in your mind. While the tunes ring with the sweetness of a child they reflect the wisdom of an elder. He has played with everyone from Taj Mahal, Babatunde Olatunji to the great jazz legend, Charles Lloyd. His mesmerizing performances are legendary.
Freelance Johnson has an attitude that is everything surf culture embraces. To Freelance Johnson what really matters is the next big wave, bong hits and beautiful girls. Their lead singer "Crash" is an avid surfer who can be frequently found at the breakwater at Venice Beach, California riding the waves. Their sound is not reminiscent of the traditional twangy guitar surf music of the 1960's, but rather a reflection of the modern surf movement. The ideals of this new movement are reflected the song "Kali4na" where Crash sings "I gotta worn ya, this is California", a song that expresses surfers' territorial rights to the best waves and at the same time their frustration with the increasing pollution of the ocean's water. This band will stop short of nothing in order to play their infectious music and ride the next big ocean swell.
Based in Southern California, Boom Shaka is keeping roots reggae music alive and well. Founded way back in 1986 by singer/songwriter Trevy Felix, Boom Shaka has developed a serious following over the years. They have toured the world and have released a series of albums since their inception. Trevy Felix is the lead singer and plays guitar. He is accompanied by his brother Bass-I on bass, Lester Fari on lead guitar, Shaka Man on drums and Little George on keyboards. Boom Shaka's music is incredible. They have great lyrics, heavy bass lines, sweet guitar licks and beautiful harmonies. If you thought that all the best reggae music was recorded in the 1970's, then you haven't heard this group. Boom Shaka will blow your mind.
Old friends Gene Bowen and John Densmore recently joined forces to lay down a few songs at The Hen House. Bowen had written the songs many years ago and was very excited to finally bring them to life. With Densmore, formerly of The Doors, on the drums, Jimmy Hazz on the bass and Art Ellis on the soprano saxophone, Bowen had all the necessary pieces in place to create three classic songs. Bowen plays the guitar as well as sings his very inspiring and thought-provoking lyrics. Their music will take you back a few decades and remind you of a time when songs were like poems, full of heart and soul. The Hen House enjoyed the journey and so will you.
