He continues on his way from Lake Michigan and runs into the young lady and her father, who are both on the road and having car problems. Their car is ruined, but the young writer volunteers to drive them around the Midwest to explore while she paints the region. They see many unique sites throughout the Midwest, including beautiful state parks, natural landmarks, and unique historical attractions.
