It was built in 1943, and it was an amazing machine to watch, as you will see in this video. Severn Valley Railway - Cambrian Autumn Steam Gala 2008 (Saturday 20.09.08)
The Severn Valley Railway's Autumn Steam Gala 2008 had the Theme of the Cambrian Lines and I was lucky enough to go this, my first SVR ASG, and boy what an event it was. The line-up included 12 Steam Locomotives, Ten of which were Great Western and Two LMS. To go along with the theme LMS Ivatt Class 2 46443 was renumbered to scrapped sister ex-Cambrian loco 46446. Originally the plan was 46443(6) would be the only LMS loco, sadly GWR 4-6-0 King Class 6024 'King Edward I' was due to visit the railway but broke down on the Torbay Express the Sunday before the event and so LMS Stainer Mougal 2-6-0 42968 was called upon and did 6024's rostered turns. The guest locomotives were 3440 'City of Truro' (Courtesy of the NRM and the GWSR), Small Prairies 5526 (Courtesy of 5526 Ltd. and the SDR) & 5542 (Courtesy of 5542 Ltd. and the GWSR) plus 9017 'Earl of Berkeley' (Courtesy of the Bluebell Railway). Friday 28th November 2008 - 5029 Nunney Castle ran light loco with a support coach from Tyseley - Barton Hill thats situated in Bristol. For this shot i went to Newton St Loe for a long broad shot of her coming from the Bath Spa Direction. Saturday 29th November 2008 - 5029 Nunney Castle was hauling THE WELSH MARCHES EXPRESS Railtour which was steam hauled from Bristol Temple Meads - Shrewsbury and Return To Bristol Temple Meads. myself,HSTMAN14,BathBoySteve set out to film 5029 At Severn Tunnel Junction, I set up 2 tripods and cameras one facing Newport the going away shot and the other facing the tunnel, as 5029 Roared up the Bank my camera took a turn for the worse and had a disc error which forced me to lose all of my footage of the on coming shot, However the going away shot facing towards Newport came out alright how ever the soundtrack of her climbing the bank is heard very well but there is no on coming shot of her. sorry for the inconvience on this day, a real heartbreak for me not filming the head on shot! for viewers that would like to see the head on shot please take a look at GJDobbzy,JBTEvans,HSTMAN14 and also BathBoySteve Footage.
