  • Bart the Bear™ was born in a zoo in 1977 and adopted by Doug and Lynne Seus and trained to be in films. • This is the third part of the Trinkets trilogy. The trinkets trilogy is an experimental, poetic documentary about how the way in which Canadians define themselves, and how our "cultural products" in actuality are nothing more than mere "trinkets" - an item that is hollow of actual meaning, but only is a representation of that which does not exist. This part examines the way in which we see Canadian econmic history, and it invites you - through its fast pased editing - to contemplate the actual significance of these pieces, or trinkets, of Canadian culture. Filmed and photographed entirely at The Toronto Zoo in Toronto, this piece invites you to examine the one of the many ways in which we objectify living creatures, making them trinkets, to represent our scientific expertise.

E EU AMO TODOS ELES!!! ............................... Christian just has a heart and soul that has awakened and strengthened a love for animals in millions of people,This video speaks for itself. The backstory is that Christian was separated from his parents at an early age and put up for sale in a London department store. Christian's parents were zoo lions, the father came from the Rotterdam zoo and the mother from Jerusalem, and they lived at the Ilfracombe zoo. When they had cubs, the zoo sold them, and two cubs went to the department store. Two men, Anthony Bourke and John Rendall, found him there and immediately fell in love with him and determined to buy him. They scraped together the money and brought the little lion home when he was only a few weeks old. Tony and John dedicated themselves to giving Christian the best life they could, and the bond that developed between them is a joy to behold. Christian was a remarkable lion, obviously very intelligent and loving, and gentle to everyone, both human and animal. As he grew, Christian began to need bigger facilities than Tony and John could provide. Thanks to a chance meeting with Bill Travers (who had starred in the movie Born Free), they hit upon the idea of sending Christian to Africa to live as a wild lion. Bill Travers contacted George Adamson to set up the project, and came up with the idea of making a documentary movie of it all, this movie, to fund the project. The movie starts with a

  • A team of scientists from Britain, the United States and Papua New Guinea found more than 40 previously unidentified species when they climbed into the kilometre-deep crater of Mount Bosavi and explored a pristine jungle habitat teeming with life that has evolved in isolation since the volcano last erupted 200,000 years ago. In a remarkably rich haul from just five weeks of exploration, the biologists discovered 16 frogs which have never before been recorded by science, at least three new fish, a new bat and a giant rat, which may turn out to be the biggest in the world. The discoveries are being seen as fresh evidence of the richness of the world's rainforests and the explorers hope their finds will add weight to calls for international action to prevent the demise of similar ecosystems. They said Papua New Guinea's rainforest is currently being destroyed at the rate of 3.5% a year. "It was mind-blowing to be there and it is clearly time we pulled our finger out and decided these habitats are worth us saving," said Dr George McGavin who headed the expedition. The team of biologists included experts from Oxford University, the London Zoo and the Smithsonian Institution and are believed to be the first scientists to enter the mountainous Bosavi crater. They were joined by members of the BBC Natural History Unit which filmed the expedition for a three-part documentary which starts tomorrow night. They found the three-kilometre wide crater populated by spectacular birds of paradise and in the absence of big cats and monkeys, which are found in the remote jungles of the Amazon and Sumatra, the main predators are giant monitor lizards while kangaroos have evolved to live in trees. New species include a camouflaged gecko, a fanged frog and a fish called the Henamo grunter, named because it makes grunting noises from its swim bladder. "These discoveries are really significant," said Steve Backshall, a climber and naturalist who became so friendly with the never-before seen Bosavi silky cuscus, a marsupial that lives up

  • These days all of the animal industry from national parks to sanctuaries is a business, and there is nothing wrong with making money. BUT can't it be ethical? "Lions, Tigers and Scams" takes a look at the cub petting industry. This is one of the main reasons why there are so many unwanted big cats filling up the few good sanctuaries/rescues in the Unites Sates. For the money this industry brings in, one would hope that it is going to actually help the cats or save them in their natural habitats, but it isn't. I think it is possible to have a sustainable wild tiger population in Asia, and that we can protect tigers from people, and locals from tigers. A true sanctuary is a place that does not breed, sell, or pull baby animals from their mothers to be dragged around from State Fairs to Car Shows and all places in between for the public to hold. They sell this off as entertainment, (maybe it is for some) and maybe we no longer care about the welfare of the animals involved or the bigger picture? But I'd like to think we do. The dealers & breeders bank on our ignorance and that is wrong. A report by WWF/Traffic on the captive tiger go to: http://www.worldwildlife.org/who/media/press/2008/WWFBinaryitem9751.pdf The entertainment field also dumps its animals into sanctuaries for a documentary go to: http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/cruelcamera In my research, I found many places claiming to be sanctuaries. How to spot a good place so your money is donated wisely. (The majority of zoos and sanctuaries are NOT accredited and have nothing else but a USDA license.) A good sanctuary will rarely have to "rescue" cubs. Adult tigers are dumped and baby tigers are mostly sold or traded. A good sanctuary won't have a web site filled with pictures of people holding tiger and lion cubs and hanging over adults cats. A good sanctuary will be involved in getting better legislation to protect the welfare of the big cats and some donate to conservation efforts that protect the wild cats in their natural habitats. But as seen even in a few accre

  • A YouTube for All of Us: Is Youtube the new Gutenberg press, can it have such a huge impact upon Humanity. When the Television was invented, people asked what it could be used for, the answer knowledge. To help educate & allow information to the people, fine it became the new theatre allowing plays to become movies, Shakesphere on film. But it also became false a tool for propaganda, a tool for selling crap under false pretence, there are some great documentaries done by the BBC and channel4, but most of TV is lies, made up drama just to sell soap powder. On Youtube fine we can tell lies, but then we have to answer those lies, but in all parts lies or truth, represents our real lives, our real thoughts, our misgivings, and our enhancement from the understanding that no matter where you are from, we all love, fear, sometimes drawn even to hate, mostly that people still do care. We haven't given up the battle for humanity. Youtube is a step, whether it wants to continue what it started, or just become another mindless TV-tube. The key point is that YT is now mindful-filling. For all it should be fun, sometimes rough, but thats why we keep coming back. We may insult one another, then slowly say sorry, & then come to a mutual understanding, and even friends. YouTube is alive, don't trap it in a cage in a zoo.
