No way am I an expert in Japanese-- from what I do know, in pop culture like anime, they don't use "perfect Japanese" all the time. One can actually imagine/guess why Sakura's father calls her Sakura-san. "San" can serve as a suffix that addresses someone politely. For instance, Allan-san = Mr Allan, Jennifer san would the be "Miss Jennifer". One can guess that Sakura's father wants to treat Sakura as an adult, or make Sakura feel more mature/adult-like -- After all, young children usually seek/hope to be mature as quickly as possible! But that's just my take. Like the appreciation of arts, there's no right and/or wrong answer -- everyone sees the same thing differently, everyone has his/her different truth about the same thing. Hope that helped you a littlt though, and feel free to critcise if I got it wrong ^Ô^

does anyone else notice that Yue and Clow use "watashii" when they refer to them selves? Don't boys use "ore" ad girls use "watashii"?

Watashi is used by males and females, and is the polite form. Ore, although it is used by males, is a vulgar form that is usually used only in male company, or in a masculine environment. An example: Guy out at a bar watching the football game, uses "ore." Guy meeting his girlfriend's parents for the first time, uses "watashi." (at least if he wants to see her again.)

well they do use 'watashi' and 'boku' as well. 'watashi' and 'boku' are a bit more...gentle? than the 'ore' that Li uses..
