Director, Consumer Insights

Our Marketing team is currently seeking an innovative strategic leader in on-line and direct marketing strategies to be the Director of Consumer Insights.  This role will direct and plan market research functions as well as, ensure that marketing efforts are focused on markets with high potential

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Acts as an advocate for the role, value and application of consumer research and trend research across the organization.
  • Conduct and coordinates meaningful ongoing research of people within all market segments and sub-segments.
  • Determine what the organization needs to do (programs/offerings) and/or how can be communicated to them more effectively to be able to convert more customers.
  • Through effective research, the main objective is to increase customer acquisition, and increase brand awareness and market share, through segmentation strategies.
  • Develop strategy for targeted marketing campaigns.  Responsible for data extraction, list or lead generation, or evaluating effectiveness and marketing campaigns.
  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate existing and potential product/service markets. Identify and monitor competitors and market conditions.
  • Recognize user patterns and trends to help formulate effective marketing techniques.
  • Create and implement communications programs that effectively describe and promote the organization and its products.
  • Based on market research and trends, recommend changes to current product development procedures.
  • Influences senior business leader strategic decision making by drawing conclusions from market research and presently the results in strategic and compelling ways.

Planning and Execution:

  • Developing strategic and operational plans, managing execution, and measuring results:
    • Identification of market consumer trends, dynamics and insights as basis for strategic choices and decision making.
    • Scope, conception and execution of all research projects, including managing external vendors.
    • Sourcing, qualification and management of vendors, ensuring integrity of methodology and data/insights, and competitive budget and timetable management.
    • Development of process for sharing upcoming studies/key learning with all Marketing partners

  • Partners with external strategic business partners and vendors to develop innovative techniques and methodologies for consumer insights & trend. Oversees implementation and monitor results

Qualifications

  • Senior level leadership experience in consumer insights & trend function (7 - 10 years), including:
    • Progressive experience in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and techniques focused on consumer and market trends
    • Progressive experience in global Consumer Insights & Trend program development and implementation, with emphasis on innovation
    • Client-side experience translating business needs into research strategies, design, execution and conversion, analysis and presentation
    • Demonstrated success at “packaging” insights and trends for diverse stakeholders, enabling strategic decision making 
    • Extensive understanding of traditional consumer research techniques and methodologies, with demonstrated track record of designing and implementing innovative, non-traditional consumer research programs.
    • Ability to build, direct, and develop productive teams.
    • Strong communication and presentation skills, especially to non-research audiences.
    • Demonstrated industry and business acumen.
    • Ability to apply research conclusions to the reality of business conditions. 
    • Exceptional influencing and coaching skills to encourage greater consumer awareness within the organization.
    • Ability to manage vendor relationships, budget and performance.
    • Effective networking skills with companies and people that will enhance business goals.
    • Passion communicator and curiosity in consumers.
    • Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree preferred.
    • 7 – 10 years of experience in related field.
    • Flexible with travel commitments to and from San Diego.
