Software Engineer, Java Developer

Veoh Networks is looking for talented Java engineers to help deliver the next generation of video on the internet. We have several positions open, working with some of the latest and most cutting edge technology in the areas of search, data collection/analysis, and behavior targeting.

Veoh is an innovative Internet television platform that reaches hundreds of millions of viewers throughout the world.  Through Veoh.com and our VeohTV Windows client application, we give viewers free access to great TV and film studio content, independent productions, and user-generated videos from across the Web.  Veoh is privately held and backed by leading technology and media investors, including: Goldman Sachs, Michael Eisner's Tornante Company, Time Warner Inc. and others. We are based in San Diego, California with additional offices in New York, Los Angeles and St. Petersburg, Russia.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and extend core business logic of Veoh’s java services.
• Work with design team and engineering leadership to design and implement new features.
• Drive improvements utilizing latest and cutting edge Java technologies.
• Implement and support unit testing, performance and load testing efforts.
• Support increasing scale and performance of application.
• Participate in design reviews and be a creative, vital part of a dynamic development team.
• Work with Team Lead and other engineers on scheduling and task breakdowns.
• Be responsible for timely, high quality code deliveries.

Qualifications:

• 2+ years professional experience writing Java in a large production environment.
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, design patterns required.  Familiarity with the MVC architecture desired.
• SQL language proficiency required.
• Creative problem solver with excellent trouble-shooting skills.
• Excellent communication skills and familiarity with engineering best practices.
• Must be comfortable in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and possess creative problem solving skills.
• Must have experience designing and building large and complex (yet maintainable) systems.
• We are looking for creative thinkers and problem solvers, not code monkeys.
• Ability to write robust and maintainable code on a tight schedule.
• Proficiency with Perl, Python or PHP is helpful.
• Familiarity with open source commercial reporting or statistical packages a plus.
• Experience developing code to interface with high volume MySQL or Oracle databases a plus.
• Experience with these technologies a plus, but not required: Lucene, SOLR, Hadoop.
