This is a feature put up by 'l-Ghaqda Storja u Kultura Birzebbuga', a Cultural Society in Birzebbuga, Malta. The feature is about the Titular Statue of Saint Peter in Chains in the Parish Church of Birzebbuga. A feast is celebrated annually in honour of this patron saint, on the first Sunday of August. The feast reaches its culmination in the procession with the above mentioned statue. The present statue of Saint Peter was brought to the town of Birzebbuga in August 1959. This year (2009) we commemorated the 50th anniversary of this historical event. The statue is described by many as one of the finest on the island of Malta. Ferdinand Stuflesser of Bolzano was commissioned to work out this piece of art by Mons. Giuseppe Minuti, the parish priest of Birzebbuga. The present statue replaced another beautiful one, carved in Rome, but was considered too small in comparison to the traditional Maltese processional statues. The statue of Saint Peter, is without doubt very dear to true parishioners of Birzebbuga.
This is a video, about the old hamlet of Benghajsa, suburb of Birzebbuga (Malta), the town in which we find the ancient remains of 'Ghar Dalam'. Benghisa, is an old hamlet (small village) with a chapel dedicated to the 'Immaculate Conception'. The village is well renowned for Maltese agricultural traditions and remains from the pheonician period. The chapel is also a popular place for prayer and for the feast of the Immaculate Conception celebrated on the 8th of December each year. Close ties also exesit between Benghajsa and 2 outstanding Maltese figures: Profs. Peter Paul Saydon and Saint George Preca.
