The Germans invade the village of Tarn where the father of a little boy named FranÃÂçois takes in a Jewish family as refugees from the nazis and hides them in the cellar of their mansion. In spite of the precautions taken, FranÃÂçois ends up discovering this family, and a deep friendship with a little girl named, Georgi ensues, to which he offers a bottle of perfume from Paris. When the Nazis change guard, the new brutal commandant looks for the missing family and hangs any Jewish sympathizers he finds. Things get even worse when they set up headquarters in their house. The course of action is now apparant for FranÃÂçois, his mother and two older brothers and they flee the village. But has FranÃÂçois made a tragic mistake by insisting he visits Georgi one last time accidently revealing their hideout?
