A young girl named Ange is summoned to a Sacred Land and is chosen as the Legendary Etoile, whose mission is to save the newly-born Cosmos of the Holy Beast, which has recently fallen under a crisis. With the support of nine Guardians (who have the power of nine elements), she embarks on a journey to save the dying land of the Holy Beast and to discover her true self.

In what seems ordinary belies occurances of unexplainable circumstances, and underlying these special occurances is the presence of one's dreams or "yume". In this world, the said "yume" is composed of strong emotions... Simultaneously, these emotions will break free from one's mind and transcend the borders to reality. Once the fine line between dream and reality is crossed, these "yume" may turn into nightmares and invite disasters. Misako Mishima and Touko Mishima are amateur dream-users or "yume tsukai(s)". They possess special powers to exterminate and control these nightmares. They will then search for the source of the "yume" and return it to the rightful owner.

Latell and Apulo are your average pair of pirate-chasing detectives...well, not quite. Apulo is a cat. Okay, he's not a cat; he just looks like one...one with a bottomless stomach. While the partners chase pirates (and indulge in Dirty Pair levels of gratuitous property damage), Apulo's busy stuffing his face with junk food. Needless to say, they're the most expensive detectives the force has ever seen, and the chief's not too happy about it. He's so not happy about it that he fires the duo, along with their sarcastic, egocentric spaceship Lagendra.
