音楽をはじめ小説、絵画、映画、コンピュータプログラムといった著作物は世界の国々が加盟する著作権の国際条約に基づき、互いに保護し合う枠組みが整っています。 例えば、条約に加盟しているアメリカやフランスの作詞家・作曲家の作品は、日本でも日本の作詞家・作曲家の作品と同じように著作権上の保護が与えられます。 しかし、条約で権利が保護されていても、日本で音楽を利用する人がその都度アメリカやフランスの著作権者に個別に手続きするのは困難が伴います。そこで、世界各国の著作権管理団体が、それぞれの団体の管理作品(レパートリー)を互いに管理し合う契約(管理契約)を結んでいるのです。 したがって、日本国内で外国の音楽を利用する場合も、日本の作品と同じようにJASRACに手続きをいただくことで、利用することができます。 To protect the rights of owners of musical works and to facilitate the utilization of musical works, thereby contributing to the dissemination and development of musical culture.
