Bulldozers: destroying, not only building (Palestina-Sulukule)
Caterpillar is a American group of construction machines for building sites, they say. But Caterpillar is earning much money with the destruction of buildings and even lifes,...for example in Palestina where the Palestinian people already many years suffer under the destructive power of Caterpillar machines who took also the life of the american peace activist Rachel Corrie. It are most Caterpillar machines who are destroying the Rom (gipsy) quarter of Istanbul, Sulukule...the "work" is almost terminated.. The actual economic crisis is a reason for the Caterpillar managers to dismiss hundreds of workers and close down factories. Now it are the workers who used to construct the Caterpillar machines, that are very angry: four managers of Caterpillar France remained retained one night in the Grenoble seat of the company. The workers used their "prisoners" to have a stronger position struggling against the destruction of their jobs in the spring of 2009. In front of the elected delegates of the workers, the direction of Caterpillar did not hide that half of the jobs considered redundancies=dismissals are giustified as that in no way by the fall of volumes of production for 2009, but by the requirement to improve the profitability of the group and to guarantee dividends with the shareholders. The trade-unions asked the government to intervene to prevent that the dividends are versed thanks to the destruction of employment. And so we see scenes near the Caterpillar factories who will be very familiare to the Palestinian people and the Rom of Sulukule...
The central square "piazza missori" [comparable for example with muntplein in amsterdam] for 6 hours completed isolated and surrounded by more than 1000 riot policemen: at the square fascists from whole europe -as france, italy, hungary, england, and so on- gathered for a meeting in Hotel Cavalieri [owned by a wellknown fascist]. There were just 200-300 of the scum, brought wit ATM-busses of the City to the hotel. In the meantime nobody else could reach the square for 6 hours, no trams or busses passed by. Although the Italian Constitution forbids the propaganda for fascist organisation the City government of Moratti (forza italia) and De Corato (fascist) didn't see any reason to forbid the reunion....we -the comunity- paid for the 1000 policemen and the traffic jam that should protect the fascist scum. At the front of the Scala opera thousands of antifascists gathered for an antifascist meeting: the rain drove the mass under the Galleries, but one thing has been made quit clear: FASCISTS OUT OF MILAN, OUT OF EVERYWHERE, BACK IN THE SEWERS!!!RESISTENZA ORA E SEMPRE/RESISTANCE NOW AND ALWAYS!!! At the end of 2008 the world sees herself faced with a new form of "defensive war": the one made by one people that justifies the genocide of an other, different people. The Israelian army causes an enormous destruction in one of the last territories remained to the palestinians, the Gaza, leaving after a month more than 1000 dead palestinians [most civilians] and rubbish were used to be houses, hospitals, land.... Normal persons have lost any comprehension and sympathy for the Israelian State, even many jews who are living outside this "Jewish Ghetto" and even some who actually are living inside of it.. I combined loosely a collection of images, impressions and songs out of the long and remarkable life of Miriam Makeba. Makeba died as she had lived, in full voice and in support of a political cause at the evening of 9 novembre in Castel Volturno, one of the backward places of Italy, controlled by the local mafia "camorra"; the camorra killed there 6 african, random chosen workers to intimidate people who don't want to be controlled by the organized italian crime. The 76 year old singer Miriam Makeba suffered a fatal heart attack, it was announced, shortly after performing at a concert in southern Italy in honour of Roberto Saviano, a journalist whose work in uncovering the Camorra mafia has earned him death threats and a life in hiding. You will see the early years of Miriam, her stay in Giunee, songs with her daughter Bongi (died some years later), and at the end the last concerts in Oslo and Amsterdam (Paradiso). We died in someway togheter with her.
