""I am Horo the wise"- Horo the wise."
On Japan's syncretism and atheism... I think that christianity is not a relevant influence in eastern philosophy or in japanese daily life per se, but becomes an exotic and/or fearful element, very widely used in manga and anime due to the notion of "Sin". Concepts like guilt, sin, punishment and hell are pivotal to christian philosophy as redemtion and salvation are only achieved through suffereing and sacrifice, whereas eastern religions achieve glory through knowledge and enlightment. A perversion of the whole purpose of knowledge to persue greedy interests can be therefore seen as vile and in typical eastern karmic fashion, deserves punishment. But I guess that's how my atheistic eye sees it. I would never engrave this on stone ahahahaah!!!
Posted yesterdayOn GITS: that is some REALLY well written stuff. You can find multiple refferences "The selfish gene" throught the whole series; plus, I beleive there is a chapter called MEME in the first series, and, I think you are referring to the mini series that follow each ep called "Tachikomatik Days" (Tachikoma no hibi). They're waving it around whilst discussing facing "death" and whereas that is possible for AIs who have yet to aknowledge true individuality. I think they're also reading "Gaia: a new look at life on earth"... but don't trust my memmory too much on that one. Hope that wasn't too spoilerish ahahahaah!!!

Hmm, well I guess I'm just your average hedonistic, infidelic, moralizing, vegan, intellectual-anarchist.
Yuri, Japan, anime, manga, art, video games, language, culture, anncient history, archaeology paleontology, anthropology, biology, evolution, evolutionary-psychology, cosmology, eastern and western philosophy, and slappin' tits around.
Daily Show, Colbert Report, Family guy, Avatar: The last Air bender, The Boondocks, and BBC documentaries are good too.
Any of Hayao Miyazaki's films, Dark comedies, and dramas.
I used to listen to a lot of hark rock, but gradually it got softer and softer, and now I listen to almost exclusively indie rock. As well as some Rush, and a few oldies that I like.
