I have been a pop music radio dj since 1965 and have worked both as an announcer and programmer. For nearly 25 years I was one of the top-rated djs at the legendary WCBS-FM/101.1 in New York City, until its untimely demise in June of 2005. As the co-author (with John Javna) of the book "Behind The Hits" in the late '80s I established myself as a music historian. While at CBS-FM I introduced many specialty programs and features that tied in with the book, including the Hall of Fame, First and Foremost, Hands Across the Water, Rockeology and many more. I have also hosted nationally syndicated radio shows including "The Oldies Countdown" and "Keepin' The '70s Alive". Additionally, with fellow dj Bobby jay, I was one of the original hosts for radio broadcasts from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. I maintain a flourishing website dedicated to the Behind The Hits concept. Also, my spouse Connie T. Empress and I continue our dj careers via Internet radio shows, WLNG Radio on Long Island and on VIP Radio, a new satellite soul music channel from England. Connie was a founder in the '80s of the Empire State Soul Club, the first club of its kind in the United States.
