  • Didn’t we just vote on this? Do we need a new library? • In the recent special election, voters overwhelmingly approved the location for our new library. Now we must vote ‘Yes’ to fund construction of the new library. • Yes, we do need a new library. A multitude of compelling reasons can be found on the City website, and in the video interview at the ‘link’ noted above. • Timing is everything. A ‘Yes’ vote means we will receive a 50% State match. Over $5 million of the construction costs will be grants or donations. We can’t afford to miss this opportunity. New Ketchikan Public Library – Proposition 3 ‘YES’ Our city, our library, our future www.city.ketchikan.ak.us Paid for by the City of Ketchikan-On behalf of the Ketchikan City Council, 334 Front St., Ketchikan, AK 99901

  • Why should we replace the 70-year old downtown fire station? • The old fire station was built in 1943. It has serious electrical, structural, plumbing, space and safety problems. It is beyond affordable renovation, it cannot be expanded, it has simply outlived its purpose and ‘life’. • Adequate in 1943, the building simply cannot meet the safety and protection mission of today’s fire department. • The State will pay about $5 million toward the project. The community cannot afford to miss this opportunity. Replacement of fire station – Proposition 2 ‘YES’ Our city, our safety, our responsibility. www.city.ketchikan.ak.us Paid for by the City of Ketchikan-On behalf of the Ketchikan City Council, 334 Front St., Ketchikan, AK 99901

  • Why is it critical that the sewer mains on Alaska Avenue and Buren Road be replaced? • The streets will soon be ‘torn up’ to replace old and worn water mains. We save a great deal of money by replacing the sewer mains at the same time. • The sewer mains are over 50 years old and in very poor condition. Failure of the sewer mains would be catastrophic for uphill and downhill residents. • The State will pay approximately 50% of the cost. Alaska Avenue & Buren Street – Proposition 1 ‘YES’ Our city, our neighborhoods, our responsibility. www.city.ketchikan.ak.us
