The various dignitaries speak about this, the 25th Anniversary year, and this year's celebration of the Cypriot Wine Festival which is now held annually at Alexandra Palace in London. Almost all the speeches are in Greek, but the guests are greeted in English by Peter Droussiotis, Chairman of the National Federation of Cypriot Organisations. The Traditional Cultural Ensemble, Vasilikia, was originally created in Famagusta, but its members were scattered all over the island after the coup and invasion in 1974.
London-born Sarbel provided the highlight of the entertainment during the 2008 Wine Festival, to great popular acclaim. Sarbel represented Greece for Eurovision 2007, but had never previously performed for his 'home crowd' in north London where this annual Cyprus Wine Festival takes place. They were inspired by the ideas of Wilhelm Reich, a pupil of Freud's, who had turned against him and was hated by the Freud family. Out of this came a political movement that sought to create new beings free of the psychological conformity that had been implanted in people's minds by business and politics.
