  • In this 90-minute documentary, now showing in three 30-minute episodes, Rageh Omaar uncovers the hidden story of Europe’s Islamic past and looks back to a golden age when European civilisation was enriched by Islamic learning. Rageh travels across medieval Muslim Europe to reveal the vibrant civilisation that Muslims brought to the West. This evocative film brings to life a time when emirs and caliphs dominated Spain and Sicily and Islamic scholarship swept into the major cities of Europe. His journey reveals the debt owed to Islam for its vital contribution to the European Renaissance. http://www.kalamullah.com/videos.html

  • Adam Curtis, The Century of the Self(part 1) tells the untold and sometimes controversial story of the growth of the mass-consumer society in Britain and the United States. How was the all-consuming self created, by whom, and in whose interests? Freud provided useful tools for understanding the secret desires of the masses. Unwittingly, his work served as the precursor to a world full of political spin doctors, marketing moguls, and society's belief that the pursuit of satisfaction and happiness is man's ultimate goal.....................(part 1) (audio distorted only for a minute)

  • The Century of the Self part 2 The programme explores how those in power in post-war America used Freud's ideas about the unconscious mind to try and control the masses. Politicians and planners came to believe Freud's underlying premise - that deep within all human beings were dangerous and irrational desires and fears. They were convinced that it was the unleashing of these instincts that had led to the barbarism of Nazi Germany. To stop it ever happening again they set out to find ways to control this hidden enemy within the human mind.

  • the century of the self (part 3) In the 1960s, a radical group of psychotherapists challenged the influence of Freudian ideas in America. They were inspired by the ideas of Wilhelm Reich, a pupil of Freud's, who had turned against him and was hated by the Freud family. He believed that the inner self did not need to be repressed and controlled. It should be encouraged to express itself. Out of this came a political movement that sought to create new beings free of the psychological conformity that had been implanted in people's minds by business and politics. This programme shows how this rapidly developed in America through self-help movements like Werber Erhard's Erhard Seminar Training - into the irresistible rise of the expressive self: the Me Generation.

Video items highlighting the expediency which rules international relations amongst the power brokers in the west, showing how its dealings with strategic ally Turkey are ruled by concepts other than those of what is right or by concepts of justice -- despite its appalling human rights record, despite its ethnic cleansing of Armenians and Greeks; its Genocide of the Armenians; the continuing suppression of its Kurdish population; its persecution of progressive elements within its own society; the continuing and flagrant meddling in the affairs of Cyprus and its 33+ year occupation of one third of the island ... yet despite all this, Turkey has been allowed to obtain 'candidate' status to join the EU !

about me:
Have been involved in the development of 'community video' more as a hobby than as a profession and became involved in learning web technology through association with one of London's first ever internet cafe's where I was involved in the early pioneering of webcast technology, and later with early moves for development of the "Creative Commons" License system -- all of which is now truly coming of age through the facilities which Veoh, Google and similar services provide for us all.
interests:
Welfare Economics, Community Services, Sustainable Development; man's impact on our global environment and the continuing denial of its seriousness. Cyprus matters and the injustice of Turkey's continuing occupation there with British and US support.

Most of the things you are ok but about Cyorus your knowledge is second hand and wrong. Always look at the other side and then decide.
