Yeah, it's fine. It's just a little less polite. Not im-polite, but not quite as polite sounding, and I'm always overly polite ^^'. Come to think of it, Onegai and Shimasu are two entirely separate words. Shimasu makes a word into a verb(a polite verb =). So its actually closer to "I'm asking you, please", though the translation depends on the situation. Ok, I gotta go now. Sorry for babbling. She's close. 'Onegaishimasu' is please when you use it by its self, when its in a sentence, it's 'Kudasai'(koo-dah-sah-eye). 'Thank you' is Arigato gozaimasu, but if you wanna just be casual('Gozaimasu' makes it polite and formal), just say 'Arigato'. There's your lesson for the day XD
