Part 31 of 31: "uchben" This was originally in the main film but was cut and added as a bonus on the DVD due to continuity. Still fun. Music from the following albums of mine: thelorax.bandcamp.com (acoustic/dreamlike) exolve.bandcamp.com (electronica/IDM) onefatalpunch.bandcamp.com (alt/rock/industrial) Visuals predominantly sourced (with permission) from the Demoscene and Prelinger archives, full credits list here: www.xpfree.org/o/ This is an hour-long "music film" I made many many moons ago, back when I still believed in myself and the world! It's a little jarring at first, but you'll soon get used to the juxtaposition of real and false very quickly. The quality of the footage is not the point of the film (which will make it unbearable for most filmmakers..), the point is to bring unseen things to new eyes- namely, the old beautiful archival footage from the prelinger archives, and the work of the demoscene, in combination with my music. Together it is meant to symbolize the cycle of a day, from dawn till dusk, till dream (dream section is the best IMHO). Note: May not be suitable for folk with photosensitive epilepsy.
Star Control 2: End music remixed This is a reimagining of the outro music for the open source version of Star Control 2: The Urquan Masters, and part of the Precursors remix project: http://sc2.sourceforge.net/ http://www.medievalfuture.com/precursors/ Composing the outro for this game was a much more tricky kettle of fish than the intro, and required more action points, hence more forethought. Luckily it still came together well, but took much more time - about a week. I'd been prepping for a movie project I was going to be working on around the same time- but the project was cancelled, due to interpersonal differences. The great part about that was, it was also scifi, so I got to use some of the ideas I'd been coming up with instead for this. In particular the explosion sounds and some intro sounds. Again, lots of Korg X5 used on this one, along with my various sound experiments and orchestral work. Steve slate EX can be thanked for the drum sounds. Sync happened almost intuitively, for the most ...
BEHOLD THE 8-BIT GLORY!!! My music here is a reimagining of the intro for the open source version of Star Control 2: The Urquan Masters, and part of the Precursors remix project: http://sc2.sourceforge.net/ http://www.medievalfuture.com/precursors/ The Intro was composed from four things: my X5 keyboard, my rusty old Ross RG10 guitar amp (which I love heartily), the original soundtrack, and "Shredder's Theme" from the TMNT movie soundtrack. Of the last two, only the intro 'boom' from SC2 is used as well as several 'boom' sounds I sampled from the beginning and end of "Shredders Theme" (and subsequently sped up/slowed down, combined & processed - heavily..). Incidentally, that theme is a great piece of work, and holds up today. This came together pretty smoothly and quickly - without a lot of prior thought. After that I did a ton of work - on both pieces - trying new plugins and different processing techniques - No metronomes were harmed in the baking of this cake... Thanks to the original creators of the game: Toys for Bob - and thanks to the original game composers, for being such an inspiration for me. If it weren't for you, I would not be as interested in games music as I am today. Matt - soulstudios.co.nz
