One day a puppy comes to Akari's house, who has just turned 14,and was trying hard to act strong after her mother suddenly fell ill.She immediately fell in love with the puppy and named it "Socks" after the paws which looked like they had white socks on.Her mother told Akari about 10 Promises To My Dog, the things that she had to do with Sock when she was still alive, about 10 years and the last thing to do when Sock was about to die. Akari was together with Socks day and night. However, as Akari grews up,her feelings and interest moved away from Socks. Left by the roadside as a puppy, Mari, portrayed in the film by a Shiba Inu, is taken in ... by a family which recently has lost its mother to illness. A year later she herself has three puppies, just in time for a major earthquake which strikes the mountain village where she lives. Although valiant herself in trying to rescue the family‘s grandfather, there is no choice but to leave her behind in the evacuation of all the village‘s inhabitants.
