An Improvisation. My technique is terrible. My fingers are stiff. The entire piece is improvised. I came up with the motif a few days ago, and most of the material has been thought of before, however, this is not written, and is completely improvised. Thought Process: To be honest, I don't really have one. To stay on the subject of piano, I have a pretty good upbringing in drama which can be seen in parts of this piece. In drama, particuarly with improvisation, we are taught to never stop acting, or laugh, or stumble as we try to find out place again, but instead to work with the mistake that we have, and continue from there. There were a number of times where I would have a particular melody in this piece, and I would be following it up, and as I looked away to see what my other hand was doing, I would end up hitting a wrong note...fatefully wrong. So, instead of stopping, I would use that, repeat it a few times, and then continue from there. You may also hear every now and again, abrupt pauses after creating a thick dissonant sound, and that is me lifting my foot off the pedal. Not exactly a sound I desired, but, hey, thats fine, I was able to use that, repeat it, and continue from there. I think in a way, that led me to the 'more popular' tonal section in the second half of the piece. :) Hopefully that helps? Oh, and my intentions are to use a large majority of this material in a Piano Quintet I'll be composing after my Conservatorium Auditions.
