Framed for the murders committed by Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), the Batman has the entire city against him. He takes off the mask and forces himself to live his life normally, as Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale). Behind the scenes, however, a brilliant detective (William Fichtner) who had a run-in with the Joker (Heath Ledger) at one point in his life is now on the case. He tries to discover the Batman's identity as he suspects Bruce Wayne and goes to increasingly extreme lengths to do so, leaving a trail of tears and bodies in his wake.
